  • Hours: 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM

As Head Chef at Westwood Care Home, your dedication will shape the positive impact of meals on residents' lives. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leadership: Managing and directing a culinary team to ensure nutritional, high-quality, and budget-conscious meal service.
  • Dietary expertise: Preparing modified diets (aligned with IDDSI guidelines) that are appealing and nutritionally balanced.
  • Procurement: Ordering food supplies, negotiating with vendors, and maintaining stock control within budget.
  • Staff development: Supervising and training kitchen and host staff, including teaching food preparation techniques.
  • Safety and risk management: Following safe systems of work, ensuring proper manual handling protocols, and assessing risks to residents, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain high culinary standards through a well-managed team.
  • Ensure IDDSI-aligned diets meet individual resident needs while delivering visual appeal and nutritional balance.
  • Order food supplies from approved vendors, adhering to company policies and budget constraints.
  • Supervise staff, delegate tasks, and provide ongoing training.
  • Implement safety protocols for food preparation and handling risks.

Requirements

About You

To thrive in this role, you must embody Avery Healthcare’s core values: caring, support, honesty, respect, and accountability.

Ideal candidates must have:

  • Two years of experience managing a culinary team in care or hospitality.
  • A relevant catering qualification:
    • City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2, or
    • An equivalent NVQ in catering.
  • A passion for high-quality culinary care, with expertise in administering, controlling, and making efficient use of budgets.
  • The ability to demonstrate compassion in delivering meals for elderly residents.
