Job Details

Our client is a full-service external works contractor, delivering soft and hard landscaping as well as specialist features such as irrigation systems and water features for ground floors, podiums, and roof terraces. They have grown from a small family business into a thriving multi-million-pound company. Today, they employ over 300 site operatives and deliver exceptional projects across London, the South of England, and the Midlands.

They guarantee all our maintenance projects are landscaped to the highest standard whilst ensuring minimal disruption for residents & communities.

Due to continued growth, they require a senior and experienced head gardener to join and manage our existing onsite team. This is an ideal opportunity to progress your career further with a company that has great ambitions and is passionate about the services we deliver. Industry experience is essential with horticultural knowledge and experience with a variety of ground care equipment and practices.

Ideally, you will have multiple years of experience in the industry at this senior position with knowledge and experience of best horticultural practices for landscape maintenance operations in a large public setting. We are looking for someone with ambition, attention to detail, and a passion for horticulture. Good personal organization, ability to work in a team, and prioritize workloads is very important. This position will involve working closely with our senior management team and client to deliver this project to a high level.

Job Description

  • Oversee and manage the landscape development of the public realm and private gardens.
  • To implement good horticultural practices to enhance the current landscape.
  • To monitor plant health, provide suitable and adequate control of pest, disease, and weeds, ensuring an integrated and informed approach to the application of plant protection products.
  • Ensure the Health & Safety of the site and all its operations, following company policies and procedures.
  • Provide regular and comprehensive feedback to line manager.
  • Responsibility of maintaining the irrigation system.
  • Liaison with the main site team to ensure smooth logistical operations.
  • Oversee and be hands on managing/maintaining a large residential and commercial development with large-scale landscape areas.
  • Manage a team of seasonal/mobile maintenance gardeners.

Candidate Skills

This is a hands-on role, and will require a candidate with horticultural experience at a high level. Attributes required:

  • Good organizational and IT skills.
  • Enthusiastic, practical, and driven to succeed.
  • A team player.
  • Excellent communication skills, comfortable in a customer-facing role.
  • Full UK driving licence (Desired).
  • Experience in landscape maintenance (Essential).
