About The Role
As the Head of Analytics for Last Mile, you will lead the insight agenda for a critical operational domain. Last Mile oversees the final stage of fulfilment—delivery routing, fleet operations, slot management, and performance tracking across our global partners—ensuring orders reach customers efficiently.
This highly influential, cross-functional role sits on the Data & Analytics leadership team, focusing less on AI invention and more on turning advanced capabilities into actionable business value while fostering adoption across stakeholder teams. You’ll collaborate with VP-level leaders in Product, Engineering, and Partner Success, as well as Heads of Analytics in Fulfilment and Ecommerce.
Key responsibilities include:
- Driving operational adoption of AI-driven insights by influencing (not simply directing) stakeholders.
- Guaranteeing solutions benefit Ocado Retail now while setting up potential scalability for external partners.
- Establishing ownership over the analytics strategy for Last Mile’s most operational challenges.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Excellence
- Drive Last-Mile Efficiency: Identify and develop strategic initiatives to optimise routing, chiller tote usage, and storage capacity—collaborating across engineering, operations, and data teams.
- Deliver Tangible Value: Convert advanced analytics/AI into clear operational improvements, from fulfilment efficiency to capacity management.
- Optimise Feedback Loops: Work with AI enablement teams to closure gaps between model outputs and real-world ground truth, ensuring seamless adoption.

Team Leadership & Culture
- Lead Last Mile Analytics Team: Set priorities, establish scoping frameworks, and build a culture of high-quality, actionable insights.
- Nurture Technical & Commercial Skills: Develop analysts to bridge the gap between data-driven models and business stakeholders.
- Champion Experimentation: Instigate a mindset of evidence-based decision-making, certifying robust evaluation standards and embracing data-backed iteration over intuition.
Technical Ownership
- Maintain AI & Analytics Foundations: Synthesise semantic layers and operational logic to ensure AI outputs align with real-world business definitions.
- Translational Leadership: Bridge the gap between complex data insights and TBO (Take-Back-Over) stakeholder alignment.
What We're Looking For
Essential
✅ Senior Stakeholder Influence: Proven ability to operate in highly complex environments (e.g., management consultancy) – structuring problems, aligning visions, and challenging senior leadership. ✅ True Leadership by Influence: Track record of driving change without direct authority, by assembling cross-functional partnerships and translating technical insights into business decisions. ✅ Tech & AI Literacy: Strong diagnostic ability to separate actionable AI solutions from noise, grounding advanced tools within operational context. ✅ Analytical Expertise: Underpins a team capable of:
- Metric architecture design
- Experimentation norms
- Validating model efficacy alongside Data Science partners
