About the Role
Releaf is seeking an experienced Head of App Development to lead the strategy, architecture, and delivery of our native iOS and Android applications. This hands-on leadership role requires someone with expertise in building and scaling consumer-facing health or wellness apps, as well as the ability to translate complex clinical and patient data into simple, trustworthy mobile experiences.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Ownership of the app roadmap, from technical architecture to App Store/Google Play release.
- Deep integration with health and wearable data, including:
- Apple HealthKit, Apple Health app, and Apple Watch data (e.g., activity, heart rate, sleep).
- Android Health Connect and Wear OS for feature parity.
- Collaboration with Product, Design, Clinical, and Data Protection teams to ensure features align with healthcare regulations while being intuitive and patient-friendly.
- Overseeing app performance, stability, CI/CD, security, and release management.
- Staying ahead of Apple/Google platform changes (e.g., HealthKit, Health Connect, privacy frameworks).
- Contributing to wider tech strategy as a senior engineering leader.

You’ll work closely with designers and a team of over 20 developers to build a user-driven, clinically sound health app.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead the technical strategy, development, and roadmap for Releaf’s iOS/Android apps.
- Drive the design and implementation of health data features (e.g., HealthKit integration, sleep/activity tracking).
- Ensure cross-platform consistency between Apple and Android health experiences.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to validate clinical safety and regulatory compliance.
- Manage end-to-end app lifecycle, including App Store/PlayStore submissions and releases.
- Define engineering best practices for testing, CI/CD, code review, and security.
- Monitor platform updates and advise the business on their impact.
- Contribute to strategic tech leadership within the engineering team.
What We’re Looking For
Essential Requirements
- Proven leadership in native iOS/Android app development, ideally with experience as a senior or lead engineer before moving into management.
- Hands-on experience with Apple HealthKit, Apple Health, and Apple Watch data (e.g., reading/visualising heart rate, activity rings, sleep).
- Strong grasp of Android Health Connect and Wear OS for comparable health features.
- Portfolio or apps you’ve built (for UI/UX/functionality review).
- Mobile UI/UX expertise, particularly in presenting health data clearly and actionably.
- Experience managing the entire app lifecycle (App Store/PlayStore submissions, versions, and maintenance).
- Track record of building high-performing engineering teams.
- Comfort working in a regulated environment with knowledge of UK GDPR/data protection and patient privacy.
- Ability to translate technical decisions for non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable Qualifications
- Background in healthcare, digital health, or regulated consumer products.
- Swift/SwiftUI (iOS) or Kotlin/Jetpack Compose (Android) expertise (to review architecture).
- Experience with remote patient monitoring or chronic condition management apps.
- Familiarity with clinical safety standards (e.g., UKCA/MHRA, IEC 62304).
- Past collaboration with clinical teams to validate health-related features.
