Head of Brand & Marketing – Darlington Building Society

At Darlington Building Society, we proudly uphold our heritage, values, and the impact we create for our members and communities. As we continue to grow and evolve, we’re looking for an experienced and ambitious Head of Brand & Marketing to lead the next phase of our brand journey.

This is a senior leadership role responsible for defining how we communicate, strengthen our reputation, grow our membership, and foster meaningful connections with our colleagues, members, brokers, and communities. You’ll lead our Marketing and Communications team, driving a clear and compelling brand strategy that supports our commercial ambitions while staying true to our mutual values.


About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity for a strategic marketing leader who blends big-picture thinking with delivery excellence. You’ll shape and own our marketing, communications, and brand agenda, ensuring every interaction reflects who we are and what we stand for.

Your areas of responsibility include:


Key Responsibilities

  • Brand Strategy Leadership

    • Steer our brand strategy, building awareness, reinforcing our market presence, and ensuring a cohesive experience across all touchpoints
    • Deliver integrated marketing strategies that drive member acquisition, retention, and commercial objectives
  • Campaign & Growth Execution

    • Champion our purpose, values, and community impact, making them tangible for members, colleagues, brokers, and stakeholders
    • Lead major campaigns, digital initiatives, corporate affairs, and media relations, shaping our internal and external voice

Requirements

We’re seeking a confident and inspiring leader with a passion for brand building and a proven ability to deliver measurable results. Your ideal profile will likely include:

  • Substantial experience in a senior marketing, communications, or brand leadership role
  • A strong track record of developing and executing integrated marketing strategies that achieve clear business outcomes
  • Leadership experience in managing and growing marketing teams
  • Strong digital marketing expertise, spanning multiple channels (e.g., social, paid, content)
  • The ability to align commercial goals with exceptional customer experiences
  • Experience in managing agency partnerships, budgets, and large-scale campaigns
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with credibility to influence at Executive and Board levels
  • A professionals advantage but not mandatory: prior experience in financial services or another regulated consumer sector
