Location – JD Group, Hollinsbrook Way, Pilsworth, Bury, BL9 8RR, with travel across Head Office, UK Distribution Centre sites and European Distribution Centre sites as required

The Role

This is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic and operational management of Building Services and Facilities across the JD Group Head Office campus, UK Distribution Centre sites and European Distribution Centre sites. The Head of Building Services and Facilities will ensure that all sites are safe, compliant, efficient, well maintained and able to support the needs of colleagues, visitors, contractors and operational teams.

The role will provide leadership across both corporate and operational environments, ensuring that building services and facilities are delivered consistently while recognising the different needs of Head Office, campus operations, UK logistics sites and European distribution environments. This includes oversight of hard and soft services, mechanical and electrical services, building fabric, budget ownership, statutory compliance, planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance, supplier performance, workplace services, site standards and operational resilience.

This role will also play a key part in shaping the future building services and facilities strategy for the Group, supporting ongoing campus development, UK and European Distribution Centre requirements, service improvements, sustainability initiatives and the implementation of consistent standards, systems and governance across all relevant sites.

Key Role Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Building Services and Facilities function across Head Office, UK Distribution Centre sites and European Distribution Centre sites, ensuring the delivery of safe, compliant, efficient and high-quality working environments.
  • Develop and implement a consistent building services and facilities strategy, service model and operating framework across the Head Office campus and UK and European DC estate.
  • Oversee hard and soft facilities services, including building maintenance, mechanical and electrical services, building fabric, cleaning, catering, vending, waste, security interfaces, landscaping, postal services, workplace services and contractor management.
  • Manage building services and facilities budgets, ensuring effective financial control, forecasting, supplier management and value for money across the estate.
  • Ensure all UK and European sites operate in line with statutory, regulatory, local market and company compliance requirements, working closely with the Group Health and Safety team.
  • Lead planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance and lifecycle planning across the estate, ensuring assets are maintained effectively and risks are managed proactively.
  • Drive the use of relevant software systems to drive operational performance and data driver decision making.
  • Act as the senior escalation point for building services and facilities-related matters across Head Office and UK and European DC sites, ensuring issues are resolved promptly and commercially.
  • Own supplier performance management, including contract reviews, service level agreements, cost control, value for money and continuous improvement.
  • Work with Procurement and Finance to manage facilities budgets, identify efficiencies and support commercial decision-making.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and development to Facilities Managers, Building Services teams and relevant site-based colleagues.
  • Support business continuity, incident management and emergency preparedness planning across corporate and logistics environments.
  • Partner with Supply Chain and UK and European DC leadership teams to ensure building services and facilities support operational continuity, colleague welfare and site productivity.
  • Partner with Head Office stakeholders to ensure workplace services support colleague experience, hybrid working requirements, campus development and evolving business needs.
  • Lead or support facilities-related projects, refurbishments, site improvements, moves, changes and new service implementations.
  • Drive standardisation of processes, reporting, systems, asset information and performance metrics across Head Office and UK and European DC sites.
  • Champion sustainability, energy efficiency and responsible resource management across the facilities estate.
  • Ensure accurate records are maintained in relation to compliance, maintenance, contractor activity, asset management, invoices and service performance.
  • Prepare reports, updates and recommendations for senior leadership relating to service performance, risks, budgets, projects and future investment requirements.

  • Significant experience in a senior Building Services, Facilities Management or Property Operations role, ideally within a large, complex, multi-site organisation.
  • Experience managing building services and facilities across corporate office environments and operational, logistics, warehousing or Distribution Centre sites, ideally across both the UK and Europe.
  • Strong understanding of hard and soft services, mechanical and electrical services, statutory compliance, planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance, building fabric and contractor management.
  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to manage, coach and develop multi-disciplinary teams across different locations.
  • Strong commercial acumen, including budget management, cost control, supplier negotiation and the ability to demonstrate value for money.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to influence and collaborate with senior leaders and operational teams.
  • Strong knowledge of health, safety, statutory and regulatory compliance requirements within UK and European facilities and operational environments.
  • Ability to operate strategically while remaining close to operational detail and day-to-day service delivery.
  • Experience leading change, implementing new processes and driving continuous improvement across building services and facilities operations.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritise multiple workstreams across a busy estate.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to produce reports, business cases and senior-level updates.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a proactive, practical and solutions-focused approach.
  • Good IT capability, including Microsoft Office and facilities management systems.
  • Relevant professional qualification or membership, such as IWFM, NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent, would be advantageous.
