Head of Business Development, Europe – Mylan Pharmaceuticals ULC / VIATRIS

The Role & Core Responsibilities

As the Head of Business Development, Europe, you will drive strategic growth and profitability through transformative initiatives across EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa). Your role includes shaping the business’s future through thoughtful portfolio diversification, innovative partnerships, and creative deal structures—ensuring every transaction aligns with scientific rigor, commercial viability, and operational execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan & Lead European Business Development Strategy

    • Align with Commercial leadership to close critical market gaps and repository emerging opportunities.
    • Define and execute a holistic BD strategy covering generics, complex generics (e.g., advanced delivery systems), established brands, mature brands nearing LOE, and innovative campaigns.
  • Forward-Thinking Innovation & Lifecycle Management

    • Anticipate market evolution and strategically guide transition to next-generation generics and established brands (e.g., new therapy formats, platform technologies).

  • Strategic Partnerships & Licensing in Europe

    • Identify and pursue high-impact licensing activities and alliances that fortify our generics and established brand portfolio.
    • Evaluate opportunities for innovative brand expansions beyond generics with a focus on financial metrics and strategic growth potential.
  • Lead Collaborative Transactions

    • Collaborate with Legal, Finance, R&D, Regulatory, and Operations teams during negotiations and due diligence.
  • Connect Europe’s Insights to Global Initiatives

    • Ensure European market insights contribute to global transformational strategies, from generics to innovation-adjacent areas.
  • Mentor & Drive Regional BD Excellence

    • Lead and empower the European BD team with high execution standards and forward-thinking foresight.

Requirements & Qualifications

To excel in this pivotal role, we seek a strategic, results-driven leader with:

Essential Experience (8–12+ years in pharma BD)

  • Vincentra experience in business development or corporate strategy with deep expertise in European markets.
  • Strong background in:
    • Generics & complex generics (including pragmatic manufacturing challenges).
    • Established & mature brands, including developing LOE strategies.
  • Proven track record in:
    • Mid-to-large transactional impact (licensing agreements, partnerships).
    • Creative deal structuring ( akibat activities, asset carve-outs, shared services).
    • Shaping commercial and technical decisions globally.

Core Skills

  • Strategic foresight: Confidently navigate European patent cliffs, evolving market landscapes, and regulatory shifts.
  • Cross-functional leadership: Agile collaboration with Commercial, R&D, Regulatory, and Finance teams.
  • Negotiation & influence: Ability to drive outcomes equaling through collaborative dialogue.
  • Communications: Exceptional presentation and presentation skills to interface with leadership objective.
  • Languages: Fluent in English, familiarity with European languages is a positive advantage.
