Head of Buying — Interiors, Homeware & Bathroom Brands
£50,000–£60,000 + car package · Office-based, North West
You didn't get into buying to sign off someone else's ranges. You got into it to decide what sells. This is the role that hands you that decision — the whole thing.
As Head of Buying, you'd own what an established brand takes to market from top to bottom. Not a sub-category. Not a slice. The entire range. Your taste, your calls, your collections — chosen by you, developed by you, and sold nationwide with your fingerprint on them. A buying team sits behind you and an experienced operation runs the machinery, so your energy goes where it should: on product.
The autonomy most buyers wait a career for
At a big retailer you're one name on a large buying floor, boxed into a category, pushing every decision through Merchandising, Technical and three tiers of sign-off. Here you sit at the top of the function. The business behaves like a manufacturer that owns its brands but not its factories — which means your judgement about what's good, what's next and what will fly is the product strategy. Not an input to someone else's. Yours.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
The creative half of buying you rarely get to own
You'd read where interiors and homeware are heading and turn instinct into ranges that land. You'd deal directly with manufacturers internationally, see new product before the market does, and shape what gets made and how it's finished — travelling to source in person, seeing your ideas come off the line. This is the part of buying people fall in love with, and here it's the core of the job, not the bit you squeeze in around admin.

If you can select product and read a trend, it travels. Buyer, senior buyer, category manager, product manager — from homeware, furniture, lighting, textiles, kitchens, DIY, gifting or bathrooms — the discipline is the same everywhere. Bathroom experience is a bonus, never a requirement. What matters is your eye and your commercial nerve.
A career with real altitude
This sits inside one of the UK's largest privately-owned distribution groups — a portfolio of businesses turning over well into the billions. That's a runway most buying careers never get: a clear path toward senior commercial leadership, and the freedom to move across businesses as well as up.
£50,000–£60,000 basic, significant annual bonus, a car package, and an office-based role in the North West with genuine ownership from day one.
“It took my CV and asked me questions relevant to understanding what kind of jobs to suggest for me. Suggestions were almost perfect. Jobs were exactly what I’ve been looking for.”
