About River Action We’re a specialist, high-impact campaigning charity with a singular mission: to rescue the UK’s rivers from pollution and water scarcity to protect people, wildlife, and Nature.

Our rivers are a national catastrophe—our atmosphere polluted with sewage, agricultural runoff, and industrial chemicals, drained by climate change. We need urgent action. That’s where bold campaigning comes in: galvanising public opinion, shifting policy, and holding polluters to account.

Who We’re Looking For

You’re a strategic, fearless, results-driven campaigner—your work demands grit, creativity, and the ability to unwanted attention on those who damage our ecosystems. This is not a job for the risk-averse. It’s for someone who can disrupt the status quo, rally communities, and drive change through integrated strategies:

  • Evidence and investigations → media and storytelling → political mobilisation → legal leverage
  • Grassroots campaigns → national policy shifts → corporate behaviour change

We need a leader who can: ✔ Develop clarity in chaos—turning messy situations into compelling, actionable campaigns. ✔ Pivot razor-sharp—adapting tactics in real time based on opportunities and momentum. ✔ Maximise collaboration—bridging internal teams (policy, legal, fundraising) and external stakeholders to build momentum.

This is your chance to shape environmental campaigning for at least a year in a flat structure where room to drive major campaigns.

The Role

Core Responsibilities

You will design, lead, and drive ambitious integrated campaigns that protect rivers through:

  • Public mobilisation → political influence → legal accountability
  • Community empowerment → systemic change → resource mobilisation

Key functions include:

  • Strategic Leadership & Campaign Design
    • Set the overall campaigning strategy for River Action, ensuring all work contributes to our integrated mission.
    • Develop evidence-based narratives and launched campaigns—including litigation, investigations, and direct action—that create policy shifts, industry accountability, or mass behavioural change.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
