Head of Cathedral Fundraising Development
Fundraising Support Manager
Develop the fundraising support across our 42 cathedrals.
About the Role
Church of England cathedrals hold a uniquely significant place in national, civic and spiritual life. They serve as:
- Centres of Christian worship and the seat of the bishop
- Key cultural and community institutions
- Focal points for diocesan life and community gatherings
- Hubs for education, music, heritage, tourism and supporting local economies
- Reflecting spaces for non-worshippers, engaging with creativity and spirituality
However, this breadth of purpose creates significant challenges:
- Balancing worship with growing expectations as civic and cultural venues
- Operating within a secular and diverse society
- Maintaining complex historic buildings amid limited and uncertain funding
- Dealing with structural financial deficits, high maintenance costs, and staffing expenses
- Ensuring long-term sustainability by generating fundraising income

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
This is a test-and-learn function. The role explores new models and funding strategies, and its future scope and resources will depend on demonstrated success. There’s clear intention for it to eventually inform a sustainable, nationally resourced fundraising support structure for all Church of England cathedrals.
The position is a three-year fixed-term contract.
Interviews will take place in Church House, London, on Wednesday, 29 July 2026.
