Head of Charity | NW Hearts Charity
About NW Hearts Charity
NW Hearts Charity is a rapidly growing, ambitious charity dedicated to improving heart health outcomes across Greater Manchester.
The Challenge
- 7.6 million people in the UK live with heart disease, with heart and circulatory diseases accounting for 1 in 4 UK deaths.
- Greater Manchester’s health outcomes are significantly worse than the England average, with higher risk factors for heart disease.
- While healthcare in the region is highly-rated, there remains inequity in care delivery—not everyone receives timely lifesaving interventions.
- The charity aims to:
- Promote excellent care and address gaps in treatment.
- Build stronger partnerships across NHS, public and not-for-profit sectors.
The Role
Overview
The Head of Charity is a full-time (or flexible 30+ hours) leadership position based primarily at home with frequent travel across Greater Manchester. The successful candidate will:
- Lead operational activities while driving strategic growth to meet the needs of affected people.
- Oversee a mix of day-to-day management and long-term vision, including:
- People leadership (staff and volunteers).
- External stakeholder engagement, including NHS collaboration, public sector influence and not-for-profit/to-sector partnerships.
- Relationship-building with clinics, funders and campaign allies.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
