Head of Clinical Services – The McIndoe Centre, East Grinstead

About the Role

Requiring strong and empathetic leadership, the Head of Clinical Services will ensure the highest standards of care and safety are consistently delivered to both patients and employees.

This role demands exceptional communication, leadership, and operational management skills. You will serve as a visible leader, encouraging staff to contribute to service plans and maintaining a high-quality, efficient service delivery. Proficiency in remaining calm, controlled, and solution-focused during challenging times is essential.

You’ll lead by example, inspiring, motivating, and encouraging teams to achieve clear communication, support, accountability, and responsibility—all critical to delivering excellent clinical outcomes and operational efficiency.


Key Responsibilities

  • Drive and uphold the highest standards of clinical care and workplace safety.
  • Lead a multidisciplinary team in developing, implementing, and evaluating service and care plans.
  • Maintain strong clinical governance, ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks like CQC and safeguarding protocols.
  • Respond effectively to operational challenges while fostering a supportive and collaborative work environment.
  • Ensure transparency, accountability, and responsible service delivery through regular communication and robust processes.

Requirements & Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • Qualified and UK-registered nurse with experience in a comparable leadership role.
  • Passionate, empathetic leader with strong communication, collaboration, and people management skills.
  • Demonstrates exceptional clinical assessment and care planning abilities.
  • Proven experience in managing significant organisational change, supporting transformation projects.
  • Strong multidisciplinary teamwork skills with experience working alongside various healthcare professionals.
  • Evidence of professional and clinical leadership development—including post-registration training in management, clinical governance, and related fields.
  • Ability to advisise and influence senior stakeholders on risk management, quality improvement, and policy compliance.
  • Competence in complex budget management, ensuring financial sustainability within allocated limits.
  • In-depth knowledge of the UK healthcare regulatory framework, with familiarity in:
    • CQC (Care Quality Commission)
    • Safeguarding, Caldicott, and data protection legislation
    • Care Data Assurance Organisation (CDAO) compliance
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development, keeping up-to-date with NPs/ACs (Nurses, Allied Health Professionals) and regulatory standards.

  • Experience in multiple care settings (including trauma, technical, rehabilitation, or advanced practice).
  • Passion for innovation and improvement in clinical service delivery.
  • Diplomatic, ethical, and resilient approach to workplace challenges.
  • Experience in minuscule or advanced clinical environments, ensuring specialist care expertise.

Job Details

  • Location: The McIndoe Centre, East Grinstead
  • Contract: Fixed-term (up to 18 months) with a potential transition to permanent status
    • Minimum 30 hours to maximum 37.5 hours per week
  • Salary: On Application
  • Right to Work in the UK: Mandatory—candidates must demonstrate eligibility without visa sponsorship.
