Senior Head of Colleague Communications & Engagement
Location: Hybrid – with regular travel to Waterloo, London office (typically 2x monthly or weekly, depending on business needs) + frequent visits across UK services
About the Role
Come and join one of the UK’s largest providers in complex care, proudly employing over 4000+ people. We are looking for an experienced and inspiring Head of Colleague Communications & Engagement to help define how we connect with colleagues across our organisation.
This is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for shaping and delivering a colleague communications and engagement strategy that aligns purpose, values, and priorities. You’ll ensure every colleague across our network – whether in frontline services or support functions – feels informed, valued, and connected to the work we do.
Success in this role means being a visible leader across the organisation. You will:
- Visit services to understand frontline realities and gather stories that illustrate our unique impact.
- Build strong relationships with senior leaders, helping them communicate with authenticity, clarity, and impact.

What You'll Be Doing
- Develop and deliver an engaging colleague engagement strategy aligned with organisational priorities.
- Design and create compelling, purpose-driven communications that resonate with leaders and frontline teams.
- Partner with senior leaders to empower authentic, consistent, and open communication.
- Lead initiatives to strengthen culture, recognition, wellbeing, inclusion, and belonging.
- Support colleagues through organisational change with timely, engaging communication.
- Use colleague insights, surveys, and analytics to improve engagement.
- Oversee digital communication channels to ensure stakeholders have easy access to information.
- Plan and execute employee events, including:
- Annual conferences
- Awards ceremonies
- Leadership Development days
- Engagement campaigns
- Collaborate with HR, Marketing, Operations, and other teams to ensure consistent messaging.
- Visit services nationwide to:
- Gather real stories from colleagues
- Build rapport with frontline and support teams
- Drive innovative approaches to colleague communications, celebrating progress and showcasing team successes.

Requirements
Skills & Experience
You must have significant experience as internal communications professional, specialising in employee engagement. Ideal candidates will bring:
- Proven track record leading internal comms in complex, multi-site organisations.
- Exceptional storytelling skills, simplifying complexity into engaging messages.
- Experience coaching senior leaders to become influential, self-assured speakers.
- Passion for empowering colleagues through recognition, engagement, and cultural propositions.
- Skilled in using colleague feedback, survey results, and analytics to shape engagement strategies.
- Hands-on knowledge of digital communication tools and platforms.
- Experience navigating organisational change, supporting employees through transformation.
- Delivery of successful employee events, awards programmes, and recognition campaigns.
- Proven ability to manage stakeholders across multiple levels.
- Ability to prioritise effectively in fast-moving environments.
