Our client, a leading contractor delivering infrastructure projects across the water industry, is seeking an exceptional Head of Commercial to lead and develop their commercial function. This is a strategic leadership role offering the opportunity to influence business performance, shape commercial strategy, and play a key role in delivering critical infrastructure projects that support communities and the environment.
Working as part of the senior leadership team, you will be responsible for driving commercial excellence across a portfolio of complex projects, ensuring robust commercial governance, effective risk management, and strong financial performance from tender stage through to final account.
The Role
As Head Of Commercial, Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Developing and implementing the company’s commercial strategy.
- Leading all commercial and contractual activities across multiple projects and frameworks.
- Providing commercial leadership throughout the project lifecycle, from tender through to delivery and completion.
- Managing contractual risk and ensuring compliance with contract obligations.
- Supporting business development and work-winning activities.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and supply chain partners.
- Leading, mentoring, and developing commercial teams to achieve high performance.
- Driving profitability, cash flow, and commercial best practice across the business.
- Collaborating with operational teams to achieve successful project outcomes.
- Promoting a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and commercial excellence.

About You
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Significant experience in a senior commercial leadership role within the water, utilities, infrastructure, or civil engineering sectors.
- Strong understanding of commercial management principles, contract law, and NEC contracts.
- Proven ability to lead and inspire commercial teams.
- A track record of delivering profitable project outcomes while effectively managing risk.
- Experience working within regulated environments and framework arrangements.
- Excellent negotiation, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to influence decision-making at senior level.
- Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
