Head of Commercial – Civil Engineering
Location: Berkshire / Home Counties (hybrid flexibility)
Salary: £140,000 + 20% bonus + executive car/allowance (incl. EV) + private healthcare + life assurance + generous pension
Our client is a well-established and highly regarded UK civil engineering contractor, delivering major infrastructure projects across highways, rail, water, and general civil engineering.
With a strong forward order book and continued framework success, they are entering a key phase of growth.
As part of long-term succession planning, they are now seeking to appoint a Head of Commercial, an appointment viewed as critical to the future leadership structure, offering a clear pathway to Commercial Director.

This opportunity is ideally suited to a Senior Commercial Manager or established Commercial Manager ready to step into a strategic leadership role.
The Role
- Lead commercial activity across a defined region, overseeing both pre- and post-contract functions
- Manage and mentor a team of Commercial Managers, Senior Quantity Surveyors, and Quantity Surveyors
- Play a key role in client engagement, maintaining and developing senior stakeholder relationships
- Contribute to and help shape the wider commercial strategy of the business
- Ensure robust commercial governance, risk management, and contract compliance

The Candidate
- Proven experience in a senior commercial role within civil engineering or infrastructure
- Strong working knowledge of NEC3 and/or NEC4 contracts
- Demonstrated leadership capability, with experience managing commercial teams
- Degree-qualified or equivalent (preferred)
- Ambitious, commercially astute, and motivated to progress towards Director level
