Head of Commercial Finance

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Commercial Finance to join our Finance Leadership Team, leading the organisation's commercial bid finance capability and driving the strategic impact of finance business partnering across the Group.

In this senior leadership role, you will oversee key positions across the team ensuring alignment across bid activity, operational finance and group reporting. You will play a key role in developing a high-performing team while providing commercial insight that supports strategic decision-making and sustainable growth.

You will work closely with Commercial, Contracts, BI & Data Analytics, and Operational teams to ensure commercial drivers are translated into strong financial performance, whilst identifying opportunities to improve efficiency through process optimisation, automation and the effective use of AI.

In return for your dedication, knowledge, and commitment, we're offering a competitive salary of £75,000 to £80,000 P.A. with these great benefits:

Location: Remote
Hours: 37 hours per week
Contract: Permanent

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop Finance Business Partners, Bid Modellers and senior finance colleagues, creating a high-performing and collaborative team culture.
  • Provide strategic oversight and challenge on major bids, rebids, contract extensions and commercial opportunities.
  • Drive improvements in management reporting, month-end processes and group consolidation activities.
  • Partner with Commercial, Contracts, BI and Data teams to translate commercial drivers into financial performance and insight.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs and enhance value across the Group.
  • Lead budget, forecasting and cash flow reporting processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial information.
  • Present commercial and financial performance, risks and opportunities to Board-level stakeholders.
  • Support the strategic direction and continuous improvement of the Finance function as a member of the Finance Leadership Team.

Skills & Experience

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with significant post-qualification experience.
  • Proven experience in a senior commercial finance leadership role within a complex, multi-entity environment.
  • Strong background in bid finance, commercial modelling and business partnering.
  • Exceptional people leadership skills, with experience developing and motivating high-performing teams.
  • Strong financial modelling, analytical and commercial decision-making capability.
  • Experience influencing and presenting to senior and Board-level stakeholders.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience driving process improvement, automation and finance efficiencies.

Desirable:

  • Experience in government-funded contracts, public sector tenders or outsourced service delivery.
  • Knowledge of Power BI, Power Query or related reporting tools.
