Head of Commercial Finance / FP&A

Salary: £85,000
Location: Cardiff (Hybrid, at least 1-2 days per week on site)

Are you a commercially minded finance leader who thrives on turning insight into action? Target Group is looking for a Head of Commercial Finance / FP&A to lead our financial planning and analysis function and play a key role in shaping strategic decision-making across the business.

Reporting to the CFO and forming part of the Finance Senior Leadership Team, you will act as a strategic partner to the CFO, Executive Committee and senior stakeholders, providing high-quality financial insight that supports long-term value creation, strong performance and informed commercial decisions.

About the role

As Head of Commercial Finance / FP&A, you will lead the company’s financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and performance analysis activity. You will manage a team of three business partners and take ownership of insight-led reporting across business performance, project investment, profitability, cost control and governance.

This is a high-profile role with regular exposure to C-Suite and Board-level stakeholders. You will be responsible for ensuring the business has the financial visibility, challenge and analysis it needs to make confident decisions and deliver against its strategic objectives.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead the FP&A function as a trusted strategic partner to the CFO, Executive Committee and wider senior leadership team.
  • Deliver clear, actionable financial insight, highlighting risks and opportunities across margin improvement, revenue optimisation and cost efficiency.
  • Own the annual budgeting process, rolling forecasts, formal reforecasts and risks and opportunities reporting.
  • Lead business partnering activity across the organisation, including end-to-end ownership of key P&Ls.
  • Run monthly financial performance reviews, challenging forecasts, tracking KPIs and supporting accountability across business functions.
  • Own and develop the client profitability model, providing insight to support pricing decisions and business performance.
  • Lead project reporting across revenue-generating, investment and non-billable projects, including business case development, variance analysis and governance reporting.
  • Support the CFO with reporting into key governance forums, including ExCo, Board and parent company reviews.
  • Build strong relationships with C-Suite executives, senior management and parent company colleagues.
  • Lead, motivate and develop a high-performing, commercially focused FP&A team.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
