Your new company

A reputable public-sector organisation in the heart of Manchester City Centre is seeking an experienced and commercially minded procurement leader to join their growing team and lead the function.

Your new role

The Head of Commercial Procurement will play a pivotal role in transforming the procurement function and leading them into becoming a more proactive, commercially driven business unit who genuinely partners with other areas of the business. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys autonomy and the ability to shape the direction of the procurement function whilst leading a small team. You will be working with senior level stakeholders across the organisation and providing procurement guidance and support to them.

You will be responsible for setting the overall strategy and procurement policies across the organisation and striving to deliver optimal value for money whilst adhering to procurement legislation. In this role, you will lead and motivate a small team, whilst personally leading on some higher value and more complex tender processes. The role offers a great mix of both strategic and operational procurement.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
