Head of Communications

We're partnering with a purpose-led organisation seeking an exceptional Head of Communications to play a pivotal leadership role within its communications function. Reporting to the Director of Communications, you'll act as their trusted deputy, combining strategic thinking with hands-on delivery to shape and execute an ambitious communications agenda. You'll lead the development of the organisation's brand, messaging and digital presence, owning everything from website strategy and audience engagement through to integrated campaigns, content production and communications governance. You'll also play a key role in shaping how AI is adopted within communications, balancing innovation with brand integrity and editorial excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Deputise for the Head of Communications, providing senior strategic counsel and leadership
- Lead and prioritise the communications team's workload, ensuring effective delivery across multiple projects and stakeholders
- Line manage and develop team members, fostering a high-performance culture and embedding best practice
- Champion and evolve the organisation's brand, messaging framework, editorial standards and tone of voice
- Develop integrated communications strategies that strengthen engagement with key audience
- Own the strategic direction of the organisation's website and wider digital channels, driving continual improvement in user experience and performance
- Lead integrated communications campaigns from planning through to evaluation
- Produce and oversee high-quality content across multiple formats, including web, newsletters, thought leadership, video and social content
- Use audience insight, analytics and performance data to optimise communications activities
- Support the organisation's approach to AI, ensuring responsible adoption while enhancing communications capabilities
- Manage agency relationships and ensure communications activity meets relevant regulatory and governance requirements

To be considered
- Significant experience operating as the deputy to a Head or Director of Communications ideally within financial services, investment, regulated environments or purpose-led organisation
- A strong track record of leading communications teams and managing competing priorities
- Expertise in digital communications strategy, website development and audience engagement
- Strong knowledge of digital analytics, SEO and content optimisation
- Experience developing brand strategy, messaging frameworks and editorial governance
- Hands-on experience creating high-quality content using modern digital platforms and content management system
- Excellent stakeholder management skills with experience advising senior leaders
- Strong commercial judgement, emotional intelligence and the ability to influence across an organisation
- A collaborative leadership style with a passion for developing people and driving continuous improvements
- Knowledge or interest in social impact, sustainability or responsible investments
