Head of Compliance – Cryptoasset Firm (Temp to Perm)

About the Client

AP Executive are collaborating with an ambitious start-up expanding into the crypto space. The business is pursuing UK and UAE licenses, with plans to enter 10+ jurisdictions in subsequent years.

This presents an opportunity for a senior professional in the crypto sector to transition into a global leadership role (Head of Compliance) while supporting long-term business growth.

About the Role

This critical position ensures full regulatory alignment for the firm, with a focus on UK cryptoasset regulations. Successful candidates must have:

  • Deep expertise in cryptoassets and financial services compliance
  • Direct experience engaging with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)

Key Responsibilities

  • Steer and manage the firm’s compliance framework, ensuring strict adherence to all applicable UK regulatory requirements—including those specific to cryptoassets.
  • Serve as the primary contact between the firm and the FCA, fostering a transparent and collaborative relationship.
  • Oversee all regulatory filings, FCA reporting, and communicationwith supervisory authorities.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve compliance policies, processes, and controls tailored to a cryptocurrency business model.
  • Provide strategic compliance guidance to senior leadership—balancing business growth with regulatory risk mitigation.
  • Monitor UK and global regulatory trends, particularly those impacting digital assets, and assess their operational implications.
  • Lead internal compliance audits, monitoring, and risk assessments.
  • Establish and maintain robust Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter-Terrorist Financing (CTF) frameworks.
  • Train staff on compliance requirements and culture-building initiatives across the organisation.
  • Manage and develop the compliance team.

Requirements

  • Senior-level experience in compliance for a crypto asset firm, finTech, or financial services company—with specialised crypto expertise.
  • Proven record of working directly with the FCA, including regulatory submissions and supervisory engagements.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK regulatory frameworks, particularly AML/CTF obligations and cryptoasset-specific guidance.
  • Strong grasp of blockchain technology, cryptomarket dynamics, and associated risks.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience—ability to influence stakeholders and drive a compliance culture.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional qualifications (e.g., ICA, ACAMS) are highly desirable.
