Head of Compliance (SMF16) – FTSE 250 Insurance Company
Our client is a FTSE 250 listed insurance company seeking to appoint an experienced and commercially minded Head of Compliance (SMF16) to lead the compliance function and provide independent second-line oversight across the Group.
About the Role
This is a highly visible leadership position, offering direct engagement with the Board, Executive Team, FCA, and PRA. The ideal candidate will:
- Ensure regulatory compliance
- Deliver strong customer outcomes
- Provide strategic insight and challenge across business operations
Location: Surrey (office) Working Arrangement: Hybrid (3 days in office) Competitive Remuneration: £80,000–£100,000 + bonus + Long-Term Incentive Plan (LTIP)

Key Responsibilities
- Regulatory oversight and SMF16 accountability, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations
- Consumer Duty compliance, monitoring implementation and compliance
- Operational resilience, driving frameworks to manage risk effectively
- Compliance strategy and governance, providing advisory to executive leadership
- Product, pricing and distribution oversight, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
- Third-party and outsourcing compliance, managing external risks
- Compliance monitoring and reporting, providing clear, actionable insights

Requirements
- Significant compliance leadership experience in General Insurance
- Strong knowledge of:
- FCA regulation
- Consumer Duty
- Operational Resilience
- Senior Managers & Certification Regime (SMCR)
- Conduct Risk
- Proven track record of engaging with Board and Executive Teams
- Experience managing regulatory relationships and inspections
- Excellent stakeholder management, influencing, and communication skills
