Martis Search are representing a boutique-based Banking organisation to hire a permanent “Head of Compliance/MLRO – SMF16/17".
This is a stand-alone role, offering strong opportunities for learning and development.
The chosen incumbent should have a minimum of 10 years' experience within the Financial Services and will be responsible for all aspects of the Bank's Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter Terrorism Financing (CFT) frameworks as well as general compliance functions in relation to activities conducted by the Bank from the UK Branch.
The Head of Compliance must be an approved person by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the UK or any other regulatory authority and hold the SMF16/17 function.
The chosen incumbent must demonstrate the necessary knowledge to meet such authorities’ regulatory requirements, as well as to understand how to apply them.
Responsibilities
- Ensure that the Bank achieves and maintains compliance with all current and future regulatory requirements in relation to AML/CFT.
- Ensure that the Bank and employees within the UK operations are kept aware of their regulatory obligations within their area of responsibility and changes.
- Perform risk assessments, in line with the Bank's Policies and Procedures, measuring the Bank's threats and vulnerabilities of the Bank's UK operations to money laundering and funding of terrorism (referred to as the Business Risk Assessment (BRA)).
- Create and update the Customer Risk Assessment in cooperation with the Bank's CRO, and MLRO responsible for the Head operations and overall activities of the Bank.
- Monitor transactions, manage alerts, and identify transactions and activities that deviate from the norm whether triggered through systems and any other tools available.
- Investigate and analyse suspicious activity reporting from the Bank's staff and report accordingly to the regulators when required.
- Act as the main point of contact with regulators on issues relating to money laundering and funding of terrorism within the Bank's UK activities.
- Ensure that the Governance, Risk and Compliance Frameworks of the Bank are operating effectively, and kept up-to date in line with the Risk Appetite of the Bank and the UK regulations.
- Ensure that any FCA training and/or competency standards in relation to AML/CFT are met and maintained both personally and also for all staff members connected with the UK operations.
- Compile, assess and report any money laundering and financing of terrorism risks to the CEO, CRO, Executive Committee, and the Board of Directors through the Risk Committee of the Board.
- Conducting evaluations in an objective and impartial manner.
- Maintain the highest standards of market practice / knowledge, integrity, ethical and moral conduct as established by the relevant Authorities and Regulatory Bodies.
- Dealing with all regulators in an open and cooperative way and must disclose appropriately any information of which the regulator would reasonably expect notice of.

Requirements
- The candidate will ideally have a Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 10 years' experience within the Financial Services and the relative regulatory environment.
- Possess critical competencies in risk analysis, business acumen, and organisational capabilities.
- Have the ability to develop effective working relationships with different stakeholders.
- Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
