About the role – Head of Consumer Sciences and Product Intelligence (CSPI)
The head of CSPI is a critical enterprise leader for R&D, leading for consumer first always in everything we do. Working with category and OU teams across the enterprise, the role ensures that we create, develop, deliver and review our innovations and portfolio of products to ensure they win with consumers at the point of purchase and in use, deliver meaningful and noticeable superiority that drives growth across Oral Health, OTC and Wellness.
Critical elements of the role are:
- Lead our R&D consumer first, always strategy: from early consumer ethnography, product stories, prototype iteration understanding, evolution & validation to objective consumer claims support and post-launch validation and reviews.
- Lead the organization on what most matters in influencing consumer choice, consumption and repeat, ensuring CSPI focuses on decisions that meaningfully influence behaviour and market outcomes.
- Lead decision‑led consumer and product intelligence, determining when and how testing, analytics or synthesis should be deployed to inform product, portfolio and communication decisions.
- Drive a shared understanding of ideal product models through appropriate methodologies, delivering clear guidance on product attributes that deliver meaningful and noticeable superior products.
- Be a key driver of superior product sensorials & experience through expert knowledge of product experience technologies (i.e. flavours, fragrances, taste masking, foaming, product feel etc)
- Create and execute against our product intelligence strategy, driving an objective and systematic intelligence of the product landscape for each category.
- Lead a global team of CSPI experts, driving world class capabilities, talent strategy and capability evolution.

Key Responsibilities
Integrated Product Experience and Insight Generation
- Combine consumer, product, broad evidence knowledge, complaints, and market data into unified R&D insights to drive our superiority journey.
- Drive clear understanding of drivers of trial, consumption, and repeat, helping drive usage of our products.
- Lead foundational consumer research pertinent to R&D, enabling the business to better understand our consumers’ JTBD, unmet needs, usage occasions and experience gaps so we can design meaningful and noticeably superior products.
E2E Consumer Sciences
- Deliver all elements of consumer sciences through our stage and gate innovation process with the disciplined use of product stories and ideal product models, enabling us to articulate our RTBs and MOAs to delight our consumers and deliver against our superiority framework.
- Develop and Lead a CSPI capability that enables appropriate testing methodologies for relevant steps in the innovation & development process, across categories.
- Systematically conduct post launch reviews of products, monitoring consumer complaints and acting on insights to improve our products.
- Partner with relevant teams to ensure adherence to global regulations for consumer research, maintaining an agile, consumer first process.
Product Intelligence
- Advance our objective understanding and continuous benchmarking of the product marketplace against leading and emerging competitors.
- Build systematic, data first understanding of how products compare with each other to drive our understanding of superiority.
- Help teams understand the addressable gaps within our portfolios.
Talent Development and Leadership
- Create a clear talent strategy for global CSPI for Haleon, ensuring we are at the forefront of consumer science methodologies and capabilities.
- Drive engagement of the CSPI team, ensuring we are a magnet for talent in the industry.
- Act as an enterprise leader for R&D, driving our consumer first, always behavior and ensuring we maintain the voice of the consumer in all our interactions.
- Act as a thought partner to Category and OU leadership to prioritize where to play, shape early opportunities, and avoid low‑value projects entering the pipeline.
Qualifications:
- Mandatory: BSc degree or equivalent in an appropriate subject.
- >10 years Industry experience within a large FMCG / CPG business in an appropriate / associated function.
Essential Capabilities
- Business Leadership – Able to connect consumer sciences and product intelligence into tangible business outcomes, driving growth.
- People Leadership – Is able to demonstrate delivery through others across a global network of individuals & teams.
- Team Leadership – Is able to drive a highly engaged global team through remote management techniques
- Experienced in dealing with multiple business priorities & categories – turning complexity into simple actions that drive our business.
- Has clear experience in driving novel methodologies of consumer sciences, driving knowledge that is actionable.
- Can lead the thinking and evidence that underpin product, portfolio and communication decisions, putting the consumer first to influence outcomes.
- High data capability and fluidity – uses and understands the latest techniques to ensure we are data led in our choices and decisions.
