I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Requirements
The successful candidate for this Head of Corporate FP&A role will have gained experience in another international group of scale, either currently working in FP&A or with significant time previously spent in a Group FP&A role. Exposure to and involvement in transactions would be highly advantageous, including M&A, JVs and refinancing, whether gained within another FP&A role or from time previously spent in an advisory role.
Experience as a commercial business partner would be extremely beneficial, but as a minimum, all candidates must possess highly developed interpersonal skills in order to influence at all levels across the business. Some form or prior team management experience is essential, to develop and lead a successful FP&A function. Any experience or exposure to systems implementations or systems development and improvement projects would be an added bonus, as the finance team seeks to drive further value from technology.
