Specialist Roles – Head of Corporate Psychology
Location
Cheltenham or Manchester
Salary
£86,795 to £99,529 per annum, comprising:
- A basic salary starting from £83,651
- A Concessionary Payment of £3,144
- Potential Individual Recruitment Premium (IRP) of £6,469, subject to eligibility and annual review. Note: IRP is not guaranteed.
Flexible Working
- Full-time or part-time roles (minimum 4 days per week)
- Compressed or flexible start/finish times available
- Due to role sensitivity, limited home/remote working opportunities.

The Role: Head of Corporate Psychology
As the Head of Corporate Psychology, your strategic leadership will define the long-term direction of psychology services in support of organisational growth, risk, and operational performance. Key responsibilities include:
Core Duties

Strategic Leadership:
- Set and embed the vision for corporate psychology, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities.
- Shape psychological expertise applications across critical areas: vetting, wellbeing, recruitment, and change management.
- Lead through periods of consolidation and expansion, driving compliance and continuous improvement.

Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build credible, influential relationships with senior stakeholders (internal/external), including MI5, MI6, and GCHQ leadership.
- Provide expert psychological assurance to Navigate complex organisational challenges, often under ambiguity or tight deadlines.
- Represent the function externally, fostering trust and transparency with risk-bearing decision-makers.

Team Management & Professional Oversight:
- Lead a small team of specialist consultants, offering coaching, mentoring, and ethical oversight.
- Ensure adherence to high standards and compliance, delivering results-driven services upon achieving performance milestones.
- Drive innovation and resilience through evidence-based best practices, adapting to evolving threats/needs.

About You: Key Requirements
Professional Experience
- HCPC-registered Psychologist (with Clinical Psychologist or Occupational Psychologist expertise).
- At least post-doctoral experience at Consultant (Clinical) or Principal (Occupational) level**, reinforcing credibility.
- Extensive experience leading services, functions, or programmes, demonstrating operational autonomy.
- Proven record applying psychological principles to organisational challenges (consultancy, assessment, interventions, and development).
Leadership & Delivery
- Senior leadership acumen:
- Leverage experience managing multi-disciplinary teams with diverse objectives.
- Maintain high professional standards while fostering growth-oriented cultures.
- Consultancy & Influencing:
- Build confidential, mutually beneficial relationships with risk-savvy stakeholders.
- Advise on complex, sensitive issues via rigorous yet pragmatic approaches.
Psychological & Ethical Competencies
- Excels in uncertainty and change, incorporating adaptive, ethics-focused strategies.
- Demonstrates commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), evidenced through initiatives and allocations.
- Commit to administering high-contagency decisions with judgement, empathy, and transparency—especially where security, culture, or performance is at stake.

What to Expect
Recruitment Process
The selection process is fair, structured, and merit-based. Stages include:

- Online Situational Judgement Test (SJT) to assess responses to real-world scenarios.
- Application review (CV + motivation for role/organisation, evaluating skills and fit).
- Assessment Centre:
- Technical exercise (focused on role-specific competencies).
- Competency-based interview (conducted on-site or virtually).
- If successful, progressed to a conditional offer.
Note: Each stage must be passed; delays may span 6 to 9 months (including vetting), so candidates are advised to retain current employment until job confirmation.
