Head of Customer Data & Analytics

Location: Hybrid – South West England
Salary: Competitive + Benefits

The Opportunity

Our client is a successful multi-brand consumer business with an established eCommerce presence and ambitious growth plans. Following continued investment in its technology and data capabilities, the business is seeking an experienced Head of Customer Data & Analytics to lead its data platform, customer insight capability and commercial analytics function.

This is a senior leadership position that combines ownership of a modern Microsoft data platform with responsibility for delivering commercially focused insight that supports executive decision-making across multiple brands and business functions.

The successful candidate will be equally comfortable building robust data solutions, leading analytical capability, and influencing senior stakeholders through evidence-based recommendations.

The Role

Reporting to the senior technology leadership team, you will own the organisation's business intelligence and analytics platform while developing a high-performing analytics function that enables better commercial decision-making across marketing, customer, finance and trading teams. You will ensure the business has trusted, accessible data while providing strategic insight into customer behaviour, marketing performance and commercial opportunities. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with strong commercial acumen and leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Data Platform & Business Intelligence

  • Own and develop the Microsoft Power BI and Microsoft Fabric environment.
  • Design and maintain scalable semantic models and enterprise data models.
  • Develop and optimise ETL/ELT pipelines integrating data from multiple business systems.
  • Ensure platform performance, resilience, governance and security.
  • Implement best practice around documentation, standards and data quality.
  • Drive automation of reporting and manual analytical processes.
  • Support the organisation's future use of advanced analytics, AI and machine learning.

Commercial Insight & Analytics

  • Deliver actionable insight that supports strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Partner with senior leaders to improve customer acquisition, retention and lifetime value.
  • Analyse marketing effectiveness, customer performance and commercial opportunities.
  • Provide recommendations that improve business performance through data-led decision making.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting that move beyond metrics to meaningful commercial insight.
  • Present findings clearly to executive leadership and board-level stakeholders.

Leadership

  • Lead, coach and develop the analytics capability.
  • Promote best practice in data literacy and evidence-based decision making.
  • Build strong relationships across technology and commercial teams.
  • Influence stakeholders through credibility, collaboration and analytical expertise.

About You

You'll combine strong technical capability with excellent commercial awareness and an ability to communicate complex analysis in a clear, practical way. You'll enjoy working with senior stakeholders, challenging assumptions constructively and helping the business make better decisions through data.

Experience & Skills

Technical

  • Advanced Power BI development including DAX, Power Query and enterprise data modelling.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric or the wider Azure data ecosystem.
  • Strong SQL skills.
  • Experience designing and optimising enterprise data pipelines.
  • Knowledge of data governance, security and performance optimisation.
  • Python or similar analytical languages would be advantageous.

Commercial

  • Significant experience within customer analytics, commercial analytics or business intelligence.
  • Ability to translate complex data into practical commercial recommendations.
  • Strong understanding of customer insight, segmentation, retention, CRM and marketing analytics.
  • Experience influencing senior stakeholders and presenting to executive audiences.

Leadership

  • Experience leading or mentoring analytical teams.
  • Able to balance strategic thinking with hands-on delivery.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and problem-solving skills.
  • Passionate about using data to improve business performance.
