Location: London, Hybrid Compensation: £73,000 - £80,000 / year Deadline: 23 July 2026
About the Role
The Head of Data leads the Foundation’s enterprise-wide data strategy, establishing a trusted, secure, well-governed, and insight-driven data environment. This leadership role is responsible for delivering:
- Data governance
- Data quality assurance
- Data architecture and engineering
- Reporting, analytics, and effective use of cloud-native data platforms across the organisation
This position is integral in accelerating the Foundation’s evolution into a data-mature, insight-led organisation, supporting strategic decision-making, regulatory confidence, operational excellence, and impact measurement.
Under the supervision of the Director of Transformation, the Head of Data will:
- Build and develop the data team
- Shape the Foundation’s data culture
- Ensure data functions as a strategic asset, driving value, trust, and innovation
The Head of Data will deliver a modern, secure, and trusted data environment that supports the Foundation’s mission, ensuring high data quality for insight, transparency, regulatory confidence, and impact measurement. Additionally, this role promotes a future-ready data capability, underpinning long-term transformation and fostering a culture where data is seen as a shared asset powering decisions, partnerships, and community impact.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Data Leadership
- Develop and deliver the Foundation’s enterprise data strategy, aligning it with the mission and organisational goals
- Enable data-driven decision-making across key functions:

Data Governance & Compliance
- Lead and mature a robust data governance framework, including:
- Standards and policies
- Ownership models
- Quality controls
- Metadata management
- Ensure compliance with:
- GDPR
- Data protection regulations
- Relevant regulatory and audit requirements
- Establish trusted data architecture through:
- Strong controls
- Data lineage
- Classification
- Lifecycle management

Data Architecture & Engineering
- Lead enterprise data architecture design, including:
- Data lakes and warehousing
- Integrations and pipelines
- Data modelling
- Own and optimise cloud-native data technologies across Microsoft Azure, including:
- Fabric
- Azure Data Lake
- Data Factory
- Databricks
- Synapse
- SQL
- Ensure the data platform is:
- Scalable
- High-performing
- Secure
- Aligned with organisational transformation needs
- Partner with the Business Systems team to deliver seamless integrations with:
- CRM systems
- Finance tools
- Impact measurement platforms
- Third-party integrations
Analytics, Insight & AI
- Lead the development of enterprise reporting and analytics, delivering:
- Timely, accurate, and actionable insights
- Oversee Power BI governance, including:
- Semantic models
- Self-service enablement
- Drive predictive analytics and operational insights
- Foster responsible AI/ML adoption to enhance outcomes and impact measurement
- Champion innovation using emerging technologies to support operational insight
Leadership, Culture & Collaboration
- Work closely with:
- Head of Change
- Head of Business Systems
- IT Operations Manager to develop end-to-end solutions for business systems, data, and infrastructure
- Over time, build and lead a multidisciplinary data team
- Champion data literacy and foster high-quality data habits, cultivating a culture of curiosity
- Represent the organisation externally with:
- Regulators
- Suppliers and strategic partners
- Manage internal and external delivery, including:
- Procurement and vendor oversight
Note: Role responsibilities are not exhaustive, and expansion into wider, commensurate tasks will be expected.

Technical and Experiential Requirements
Essential Experience and Knowledge
- Proven experience leading data functions in regulated or complex organisations, including:
- Charity, financial services, healthcare, public sector
- Strong background in:
- Enterprise data management
- Governance
- Data quality and architecture
- Deep technical expertise in Microsoft Azure data ecosystem, including:
- Fabric
- Data Lake
- ADF (Azure Data Factory)
- Databricks
- Synapse
- SQL
- Purview
- DevOps
- Experienced in scaling cloud-native data platforms and modern data stacks, including:
- Lakehouse
- Pipelines and BI tooling
- Strong understanding of:
- GDPR
- Data protection
- Compliance and data risk frameworks
- Proven track record influencing senior/executive leadership and managing cultural change
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Experience with Microsoft Purview governance and applying responsible AI frameworks
- Certifications such as Azure Data Engineer, Solutions Architect, or equivalent
- Experience with:
- Azure/OpenAI
- Snowflake/BigQuery/Redshift
- dbt or modern orchestration tools
- Experience enabling insights in:
- Impact-driven organisations
- Donor-focused settings
- Audience engagement environments
