Head of Data Location: London (Hybrid) Salary: Up to £180,000 HL16125

Finatal are partnering with a leading mid-market private equity investor as they continue to build out their internal Data, Analytics and AI capability. This is a hands-on, end-to-end role sitting within the Value Creation team, working directly with portfolio company leadership to identify, shape and deliver data-led initiatives. The remit spans data engineering, analytics, data science and AI, with responsibility for everything from requirements gathering and roadmap definition through to platform delivery, stakeholder management, and execution. Depending on the project, you may be hands-on building solutions yourself, leading technical teams, or working alongside external partners to ensure successful delivery. As such, strong SQL, working Python skills, and experience with modern cloud data platforms are essential, alongside the ability to engage confidently with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You'll have exposure to a wide variety of businesses, technologies, and transformation programmes, helping portfolio companies build stronger data foundations and unlock measurable commercial value from their data. The role is particularly well suited to individuals from consulting, advisory or value creation environments who enjoy solving different business challenges rather than operating within a single organisation.

Role: • Partner with CEOs, CFOs, and CTOs across a portfolio of PE-backed businesses to identify opportunities to improve decision making, reporting, forecasting and operational performance through data. • Assess data maturity, define roadmaps, and help leadership teams prioritise data and AI investments aligned to commercial objectives. • Support the design and implementation of modern data platforms, working closely with technical teams and third-party partners. • Identify practical AI and analytics use cases that can deliver measurable value across portfolio companies. • Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, balancing strategic thinking with a pragmatic approach to delivery.
