Head of Data

About Up Learn

At Up Lean, we’ve built one of the world’s most effective learning experiences by combining cognitive science, instructional theory, and artificial intelligence. Our mission is to give every learner the most effective path to success, and our vision is a world where every learner achieves more, faster, through adaptive, mastery-based learning.

We’re the market-leading platform for A Levels, with seven courses on offer and 1 in 3 A Level students using Up Learn. Over the next year, we’re launching GCSE Science and accelerating growth, expanding our impact to millions more students.

Our results speak for themselves:

  • 97% of students who complete our courses achieve an A/A*, even those who started with lower grades.
  • Usage is associated with 9 months additional progress, with grade improvements across whole year groups in a large-scale school evaluation.
  • For every paying student, we provide a full scholarship to a student in need, ensuring high-quality education is accessible to all.

About the Role

Head of Data will be a key senior leader at Up Learn, responsible for leading and overseeing the entire Data function and reporting into the CEO. This role requires a strategic and practical individual who can level up Data at Up Learn and deliver new data capabilities to achieve the company’s growth goals this year and beyond.

You should:

  • Be fluent in using AI and data to automate and re-engineer processes.
  • Have the technical expertise to build data foundations for long-term scaling.
  • Set data strategy, own Data team OKRs, and improve product analytics, KPI use, learning metrics, and impact evaluations.
  • Lead a small but high-performing Data team.

What You’ll Do in the First 12 Months

As Head of Data, your focus will be on high-leverage data work that helps Up Learn move faster, make better decisions, and maintain trust with schools and learners.

  • Own the Data roadmap: Set a clear quarterly plan aligned with the biggest company goals (GCSE expansion, impact evidence, responsible AI) and deliver meaningful improvements monthly with your small, AI-powered team.

  • Strengthen measurement in processes: Embed "instrumentation before shipping" so every major release launches with:

    • The right KPIs
    • Tracking
    • Dashboards
    • Alerts – enabling fast learning, quick diagnosis, and confident iteration.
  • Level up your metric system: Improve KPIs so teams (and leadership) have an accurate view of performance across:

    • Product
    • Commercial
    • Operations

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
