As a strategic data leader with extensive experience at the executive level, you possess a proven track record of transforming raw information into a competitive asset. You are adept at overseeing the entire data lifecycle, from engineering scalable platforms to deploying advanced data science and predictive models. A collaborative partner and skilled communicator, you bridge the gap between technical complexity and business value, fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making. Your leadership empowers multi-disciplinary teams of analysts, engineers, and scientists to operate with agility and autonomy. By balancing robust governance with rapid innovation, you ensure the delivery of actionable insights that meet demanding organisational goals and drive sustainable growth.
02 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Data Strategy & Vision
- Define the enterprise data roadmap to align with long-term business goals.
- Champion a data-driven culture by evangelising data literacy across the organisation.
- Identify emerging technologies in AI and ML to maintain a competitive edge.
Platform & Infrastructure
- Oversee the design and maintenance of a scalable, cloud-native data platform.
- Ensure high availability, reliability, and security of all data pipelines and warehouses.
- Manage the selection and integration of modern tooling for data engineering and BI.
Analytics & Business Intelligence
- Deliver actionable insights through advanced reporting and self-service analytics.
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure business success and data impact.
- Partner with department heads to solve specific operational challenges using data.

Data Science & AI
- Direct the development and deployment of predictive models and machine learning algorithms.
- Manage the end-to-end data science lifecycle from prototyping to production.
- Ensure ethical AI practices and the rigorous validation of model outputs.
Leadership & Talent Management
- Build, lead and mentor multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, analysts, and scientists.
- Build a high-performance environment through recruitment, coaching, and retention.
- Manage departmental budgets, vendor relationships, and resource allocation.
Governance & Compliance
- Establish robust data governance frameworks to ensure data quality and integrity.
- Ensure strict adherence to global data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
- Define data ownership and access protocols across the entire technology stack.
03 REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Data Infrastructure & Orchestration
- AWS Ecosystem: Extensive experience architecting solutions within AWS, specifically leveraging S3, Redshift, Glue, and EMR for scalable data processing.
- Workflow Orchestration: Expert-level knowledge of Apache Airflow for designing, scheduling, and monitoring complex ETL/ELT directed acyclic graphs (DAGs).
- Database Management: Deep proficiency in PostgreSQL, including performance tuning, schema design, and managing relational data at scale.
Analytics & Visualisation
- BI Tooling: Proven experience deploying and managing Apache Superset to provide high-performance, interactive data exploration and dashboards.
- Self-Service Analytics: History of building semantic layers that enable non-technical stakeholders to derive insights independently.
Data Engineering & Science
- Modern Data Stack: Familiarity with "data as code" principles, including dbt (data build tool) and version control via Git.
- Advanced Analytics: Understanding of the machine learning lifecycle, including model training, deployment (MLOps), and evaluation.
- Programming & Scripting: Strong command of Python and SQL as the primary languages for data manipulation and automation.

04 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Academic
- Master’s or PhD in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or Physics.
Cloud Architecture
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or AWS Certified Data Engineer.
Data Governance
- Certifications such as CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) or CIPP (Certified Information Privacy Professional).
Agile Leadership
- Certified Scrum Professional (CSP) or SAFe Agilist, demonstrating a commitment to iterative delivery.
Domain Expertise
- 10+ years of experience in data leadership, specifically within high-growth sectors like FinTech, E-commerce, or SaaS.
Technical Specialisations
- Infrastructure as Code: Proficiency with Terraform or CloudFormation for automating the deployment of AWS data stacks.
- Advanced Analytics: Hands-on experience with modern ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) and MLOps platforms (e.g., SageMaker, MLflow).
- Real-time Processing: Familiarity with streaming technologies like Apache Kafka or AWS Kinesis for real-time event-driven analytics.
