Head of Data - Speciality Insurance London | Hybrid £130,000 + Bonus + Excellent Benefits

Shape the Future of Data in a Growing Specialty Insurer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced data leader to join a growing, highly respected specialty insurance business. Reporting directly into senior executive leadership, you will take ownership of the organisation's data strategy, governance framework, and data capability, while remaining close enough to the technology to influence and support hands-on delivery. This role offers significant visibility across the business and provides a clear pathway towards a future Chief Data Officer position.

Key Responsibilities Data Strategy & Leadership Define and deliver the enterprise data strategy aligned to business objectives. Drive the adoption of a data-led culture across the organisation. Provide leadership on future data capabilities including analytics, automation, and AI. Influence long-term data architecture and platform decisions. Data Governance & Quality Establish and maintain robust data governance frameworks. Improve data quality, ownership, stewardship, and lineage across the business. Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory and data protection requirements. Develop and maintain data policies, standards, and controls. Data Delivery & Analytics Oversee the development of dashboards, reporting solutions, and analytical assets. Support the design and implementation of data pipelines, data models, and data platforms. Ensure reliable, scalable, and high-quality data solutions for business users. Act as a senior escalation point for complex data-related challenges. Stakeholder & Vendor Management Partner with senior business leaders to translate data initiatives into measurable business outcomes. Manage relationships with key technology and service providers. Ensure external partners deliver against agreed data standards and objectives. Team Development Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing data team. Build internal capability whilst leveraging external expertise where appropriate. Create a roadmap for the future growth of the data function.

About You We're looking for a commercially minded data leader who can operate strategically whilst retaining strong technical credibility. Essential Experience Proven leadership experience within insurance or another regulated financial services environment. Strong knowledge of the Microsoft data ecosystem, including Power BI, Azure, and SQL. Experience delivering dashboards, reporting solutions, data models, and data pipelines. Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, and regulatory expectations. Experience influencing data architecture and working with third-party technology providers. Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills. Desirable Experience Background within specialty insurance. Exposure to underwriting, claims, or actuarial data. Experience with modern cloud data platforms such as Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, or Databricks. Knowledge of AI, machine learning, or advanced analytics initiatives.
