Head of Data
Location: Southwest London – on site (5 days a week) Salary: Up to £90k + benefits
TRIA are supporting a fast-growing sport & hospitality group—including professional football, community programmes, and premium hospitality—as they hire their first Head of Data. The business is scaling rapidly, investing in technology, data infrastructure, and enhancing guest experiences. In this role, you’ll spearhead the development of a modern data capability from scratch.

About the Role
As the Head of Data, you will:
- Build a data environment from foundational elements: tooling, governance, and engineering practices
- Introduce modern data engineering tooling, pipelines, and modelling standards
- Deliver hands-on engineering work (75% of the role’s focus)
- Establish data security and governance frameworks
- Line manage a small team
- Oversee relationships with third-party vendors and technical partners
- Champion data literacy and adoption across the organisation

You’ll report directly to the Technology Director and collaborate closely with senior stakeholders to define priorities and drive high-impact outcomes. This is a blank canvas opportunity—ideal for someone passionate about building, shaping, and owning a data function from the ground up.
Responsibilities
You’ll be working on:
- Designing and managing a centralised business data lake/warehouse
- Implementing best-practice ETL/ELT pipelines across multiple operational systems
- Ensuring data security, auditing, and GDPR compliance standards
- Delivering data availability for reporting, analytics, and operational decision-making
- Creating scalable, reliable, and well-structured data models
- Enabling self-service analytics across the business
You’ll also be the expert responsible for finally bringing clarity, structure, and trust to the organisation’s currently fragmented and under-utilised data.

Requirements
We’re looking for an affirmative, driven character who can:
- Influence, challenge, and make confident, well-reasoned decisions
- Demonstrate technical excellence—particularly in data engineering and platform architecture
- Have experience defining or rebuilding data environments in SME or scale-up settings
- Feel comfortable introducing new tooling, technologies, and ways of working
- Be hands-on and pragmatic—experience in both strategy and delivery is essential
- Have experience leading or line-managing at least one engineer/analyst
