Position Description

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Head of Data Centre Systems & Commissioning. This role is responsible for the technical leadership, integration, testing, commissioning and operational readiness of all Airedale products within data centre environments.

This senior leadership role will lead a team of commissioning managers, BMS engineers and controls specialists, to ensure all systems are designed, integrated, tested and commissioned to the highest standards of reliability, resilience and performance.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead and provide technical governance for the commissioning, integration and operational readiness of complex data centre controls and cooling infrastructure projects.
  • Develop and lead the company's Data Centre Systems & Commissioning strategy.
  • Build and manage a high-performing commissioning and systems integration function.
  • Establish best-practice commissioning procedures, governance, and standards.
  • Support business growth through technical leadership and client engagement.

Commissioning & Operational Readiness

  • Lead all commissioning activities across the Airedale by Modine Data Centre vertical.
  • Develop project-specific commissioning plans and acceptance procedures.
  • Ensure commissioning activities support client uptime and resilience requirements.
  • Lead final handover and operational readiness activities.
  • Ensure all project documentation and as-built information meets client standards.

Project Delivery

  • Provide technical governance across multiple data centre projects.
  • Lead project teams from design review through commissioning and handover.
  • Review designs to ensure operational performance, maintainability, and resilience objectives are achieved.
  • Identify programme risks and commissioning challenges early in the project lifecycle.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as senior technical advisor to clients and project stakeholders.
  • Act as escalation point for critical technical issues.

Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of commissioning managers and commissioning engineers.
  • Promote a culture of technical excellence, safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Required Education & Qualifications

  • Extensive experience leading the delivery, commissioning and operational readiness of mission-critical cooling, HVAC controls, and integrated building systems within data centre environments.
  • Deep expertise in critical cooling infrastructure, chilled water systems, heating and cooling plant, and associated automation technologies, gained through a combination of field engineering and senior leadership experience.
  • Strong understanding of electrical infrastructure associated with data centres and critical environments, including power distribution, UPS systems, switchgear, monitoring systems, and their integration with controls platforms.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to make informed decisions under pressure and manage technical risk across large-scale programmes.
  • Strong written, presentation, and communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels, including clients, consultants, contractors, operators, and executive leadership teams.
  • Proven track record of building, developing, and leading high-performing technical and commissioning teams.
  • Commercially astute with experience balancing technical, operational, and financial objectives while delivering client-focused outcomes.
