About the Role
We are seeking a Head of Deployment Engineering to lead one of our strategic platform initiatives: the consolidation and modernisation of how software is deployed across the enterprise.
You will:
- Own the vision, engineering, and governance of a centralised deployment platform that serves the bank’s application teams
- Be the accountable leader for deployment controls to satisfy our regulatory obligations
- Drive a rare opportunity to bring engineering excellence to a complex, heterogeneous deployment landscape
- Build something that materially reduces operational risk while accelerating delivery velocity
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a programme to rationalise the existing estate of deployment mechanisms and define a target architecture for a centralised deployment platform, serving both on-premise and cloud-native application workloads
- Lead build/buy/partner outcomes for deployment tooling, aligning with broader SDLC (Software Development Lifecycle) and infrastructure strategy
- Build and manage the engineering team responsible for designing, delivering, and operating the deployment platform
- Set engineering standards for deployment patterns and drive adoption across application engineering teams
- Act as an internal service owner, responsible for:
- Reliability of the deployment platform
- Developer experience
- Platform SLOs (Service Level Objectives)
Skills and Experience
Must-have attributes:
- Demonstrated experience leading deployment platform engineering at scale, ideally:
- In a regulated financial services environment, or a similarly complex enterprise
- Deep expertise in CI/CD tooling and pipeline architecture, with practical knowledge of:
- GitHub Actions
- GitLab CI/CD
- ArgoCD, or equivalent
- Strong understanding of software change governance, including:
- Change advisory processes
- Deployment gates
- Auditability requirements
- Risk-based release controls
- Ability to operate credibly at both engineering detail level and senior stakeholder forums
