Description
Since 2016, Harmony has grown to become one of the UK's leading life safety contractors, delivering passive fire protection, building fabric, and M&E works across residential, social housing, commercial, and public sector markets. We hold a Two Star Outstanding Company to Work For accreditation from Best Companies and we are growing fast.
Our mission is simple: every resident should be able to sleep safely at night, knowing their home is 100% compliant and protected. That is what drives everything we do.
As we continue to grow, we are building a design function that will become a cornerstone of how we deliver excellence across the UK. The Head of Design will lead this transformation, shaping systems, standards, and people to ensure every Harmony project begins with clarity, precision, and technical integrity.

- Take ownership of design delivery across multiple projects, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and quality
- Produce and review technical drawings, schematics, and documentation, stepping in hands-on when required
- Collaborate closely with fire engineers, project managers, and commercial teams to integrate design and compliance seamlessly
- Build and mentor a growing team of designers, CAD technicians, and design coordinators
- Drive continuous improvement in design practices, embracing innovation, digital tools, and standardisation
- Support pre-construction and estimating by ensuring designs are fully coordinated and technically accurate
- Engage directly with clients and consultants to provide technical clarity and design assurance
- Oversee design governance, ensuring all outputs meet industry and company standards
- Lead design-related risk management, identifying and mitigating technical challenges before they impact delivery

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Why Work for Harmony
This is a rare chance to build and shape an entirely new department within one of the UK's fastest-growing fire safety specialists — with real ownership of the technical direction of Harmony's design capability and long-term scope to grow as we expand nationally. At Harmony, we ask a lot — and we give a lot back. The hours are real, the standards are high and the work is demanding, but for those who show up, deliver and go the extra mile, the rewards follow. A-players here enjoy a competitive salary, a Personal Development Plan with ongoing training and leadership mentoring, unlimited holiday, a bonus scheme paying up to 50% of annual salary, private medical insurance, enhanced maternity and paternity, lunch, snacks and refreshments on us every day (fresh fruit and Takeaway Fridays included), a team social budget, cycle to work, an auto-enrolment pension, two major company events a year and our Reward and Recognition scheme — including European mini-breaks for those who go above and beyond. It is a collaborative, high-energy environment focused on doing things the right way — technically, ethically and practically — and none of it is a perk for showing up; it's what we share with the people pulling the business forward.
“It took my CV and asked me questions relevant to understanding what kind of jobs to suggest for me. Suggestions were almost perfect. Jobs were exactly what I’ve been looking for.”
