Location: Banbridge / Mallusk Hours: Monday–Thursday 8am–5pm, Friday 8am–3pm Salary: Competitive (Dependent on Experience) Reports to: Associate Director
About the Role
As part of our mission to drive the transition to renewable and low-carbon energy solutions, we are excited to invite applications for the Head of Design – Decarbonisation. This critical role will shape the future of sustainable energy delivery across a diverse portfolio of public and commercial sectors.
We provide fully integrated design, build, and operational solutions for commercial energy centres and large-scale district heating schemes. With years of expertise delivering projects for public sector clients across the UK and Ireland, we are committed to fostering long-term partnerships and supporting our clients on their journey toward net zero.
Role Overview
The Head of Design – Decarbonisation will lead an in-house, multi-disciplinary design team, developing compliant, commercially viable decarbonisation solutions for large commercial and public sector buildings across the UK and Ireland.

Key responsibilities include:
- Providing technical and strategic leadership on net zero building services design
- Ensuring solutions are robust, buildable, and aligned with client, regulatory, and funding requirements
- Driving innovative decarbonisation strategies while maintaining compliance with local and industry standards
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Strategic Leadership
- Lead the development and delivery of MEP (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing) design strategies for commercial estate decarbonisation projects
- Oversee full project lifecycle, from opportunity assessment and options appraisal through to concept and detailed design
- Mentor a multidisciplinary MEP engineering team and drive whole-building net zero solutions, including:
- Heat pumps & electrification
- District energy systems
- Renewable integration
- Controls optimisation & demand management
Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure full compliance with UK and Irish regulations, standards, and funding requirements
- Establish robust design governance and technical assurance processes
- Continuously improve design tools, methodologies, and digital workflows
- Monitor and enforce performance KPIs to drive quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement

Stakeholder Collaboration & Sustainability
- Work closely with commercial, delivery, and operational teams to translate sustainability objectives into actionable performance targets
- Support the development of net zero roadmaps and business cases
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies, policy developments, and carbon reporting frameworks
Business & Operational Impact
- Maintain expertise in low-carbon systems and regulations, ensuring alignment with funding schemes and public sector mandates
- Assess feasibility and cost-effectiveness of renewable energy solutions for diverse project portfolios
- Drive efficiency improvements across the design function to support long-term commercial success
