Location(s): Swansea, Bristol, Birmingham (Garretts Green), Nottingham, Yeading (Hayes), Oldham (Chadderton), Leeds, Newcastle upon Tyne
Salary: £57,515 per annum

About the Digital Governance Role
The Digital and Data Hub is a strategic centre of excellence dedicated to elevating how the DVSA recruits and develops digital talent, embeds robust governance, and supports business areas with specialist advice.
This Head of Digital Governance role ensures digital delivery is aligned with organisational goals, driven by clear decision-making and robust assurance processes. You’ll work across Driver, Vehicle, Enforcement, and Common Services, helping teams from strategic leadership to operational delivery navigate complexity, stay government-aligned, and maximise programme value.

- Ensure governance processes add practical value over paperwork
- Strengthen assurance capabilities to underpin transformative digital projects

Key Responsibilities
- Lead governance and assurance: Oversee DVSA’s digital portfolio, ensuring delivery is ethical, well-documented, and accountable
- Strategic framework leadership: Develop and uphold standards aligned with GOV.UK Service Standard and methodologies such as MSP® and PRINCE2
- Cross-departmental alignment:Collaborate with Directors, programme managers, and DVSA stakeholders to uphold strategic intent and build trust
- Cultural stewardship:Foster a governance team mindset that questioning and accountability drive progress
- Risk and assurance expertise: Be the trusted advisor on digital risk, embedding good practice from inception
- Talent leadership:Grow a team that thrives through supportive mentoring and professional development
Required Experience
- Line management: Proven track record of leading small teams through collaboration, challenge, and constructive feedback
- Digital governance: Pius deep expertise in GB public sector digital governance standards, including:
- Owning and adapting a governance framework to meet stakeholder needs
- Ensuring governance processes support—not hinder—innovation
- Assurance and within assurance: Broad understanding of project delivery risks, including compliance and data standards
- Standard compliance knowledge: Understanding of MSP®, PRINCE2, or equivalent, to align with DVSA’s agile and portfolio approaches
- Senior engagement skills: Ability to communicate confidently at all levels, from executives to frontline service designers
- Analytical drive: Delight in structured problem-solving to improve operational insight
