Role at a Glance

We are seeking an experienced credit analyst to lead our European leveraged finance research, focusing on high-yield performing and distressed credit coverage. This highly visible, client-facing senior leadership role will shape one-third of Octus’ strategic research trifecta.

The Head of Credit Research will:

  • Work closely with senior lawyers and reporters on cross-border expertise to deliver best-in-class research.
  • Manage a dynamic team of nine analysts, setting coverage strategies, KPIs, and analytics standards.
  • Originate actionable investment ideas in fast-moving markets.
  • Collaborate across editorial, commercial, and marketing teams.

Key Responsibilities

✧ Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and develop a team of nine analysts covering European high-yield and distressed credits, including training, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Define research coverage strategy and establish best practices for restructuring, valuation, and recovery analysis.

✧ Research & Content Leadership

  • Originate and manage the publication of timely, insightful research reports integral to client success.
  • Allocate resources to maximize value delivery and market responsiveness.

✧ Client & Industry Engagement

  • Maintain active dialogue with institutional asset managers, hedge funds, investment banks, trading desks, and financial advisors.
  • Represent Octus at industry events to build thought leadership and client relationships.

✧ Industry & Operational Excellence

  • Monitor trends, market movements, and rival strategies to stay ahead.
  • Collaborate with legal, commercial, and marketing teams to align output with business goals.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The successful candidate must combine strategic vision with hands-on leadership, demonstrating:

  • A track record of successful investment ideas and client-facing influence.
  • Deal-making experience, from pitching to execution.
  • Tight-knit industry network in leveraged finance.
  • Elite written communication skills for clear, compelling pitches.
  • Proven leadership in hiring, training, managing skills, and career development.

A mix of expertise in: 🔹 Fundamental credit analysis 🔹 Relative value and valuation techniques 🔹 Distressed debt valuations and restructuring


Requirements

  • 5+ years in credit analysis, preferably in a client-facing decision-making role.
  • 3+ years of managerial experience, including mentorship and performance management.
  • Expertise in credit strategies, including primary markets, restructuring, and default recovery.
  • Strong skills in financial modeling, cash flow projections, and valuation.
  • Analytical proficiency with exceptional oral/written communication.
