Head of Engineering
Location: London - Hybrid
Overview
Our clients are seeking an exceptional Head of Engineering to lead the architectural direction, delivery performance, and operational excellence of our software, hardware, and AI platforms.
This role owns how technology is designed, built, and scaled — ensuring pace, predictability, and quality across the entire engineering function. Acting as Principal Architect, you will define and evolve long-term software and data architecture strategies, ensuring systems are secure, scalable, resilient, and commercially impactful.
As a key member of the senior leadership team, you will lead a multidisciplinary engineering organisation of approximately 25 engineers across mobile, web, backend, hardware integration, and AI.
This is an ideal opportunity for a senior engineering leader who thrives in high-growth environments, combines deep technical credibility with commercial awareness, and can build a high-performance engineering function capable of delivering at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end architecture across mobile, web, backend, hardware integrations, data platforms, and AI systems.
- Define long-term technical vision, engineering standards, and architectural principles.
- Ensure systems are built for scalability, security, performance, and strong data foundations.
- Act as the senior technical authority for critical architectural decisions.
- Lead execution of the technology roadmap across software, hardware, data, and AI.
- Drive predictable, high-quality delivery aligned to business priorities and revenue goals.
- Implement strong engineering processes, governance, and quality standards.
- Optimise engineering efficiency and performance metrics across the function.
- Provide clear leadership, accountability, and direction for a team of ~25 engineers.
- Develop hiring strategy, succession planning, and capability building across disciplines.
- Foster a high-performance culture built on ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Coach and mentor senior engineers and managers to strengthen technical depth and leadership capability.
- Partner with Product leadership on feasibility, sequencing, resourcing, and roadmap planning.
- Collaborate closely with Operations and Commercial teams to ensure technology drives customer success, retention, and growth.
- Maintain strong governance around engineering, data, and AI to ensure compliance, security, and operational excellence.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
