Head of Engineering | Hybrid (London / Midlands)

Permanent

Our client is a market-leading organisation delivering digital products and technology solutions that support millions of customer interactions every year across a large, distributed operational estate. As the organisation continues to invest in its digital capabilities, it is seeking to appoint a Head of Engineering to lead the next phase of its engineering evolution.

This is a newly created leadership role with responsibility for bringing together engineering, DevOps, and quality engineering into a single high-performing function. Leading an organisation of approximately 50–100 engineers across UK, nearshore, and offshore teams, you'll establish the engineering standards, operating model, and technical capability required to support a modern, cloud-first, AI-enabled organisation.

The Opportunity

This role sits at the centre of several major transformation programmes happening simultaneously. You'll lead the evolution of engineering across a complex portfolio of digital products, helping the organisation balance innovation with operational resilience while creating a consistent approach to software delivery.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

You'll be an experienced engineering leader who has led organisations through both technology and organisational transformation. You'll understand that engineering excellence isn't defined by technology choices alone. It's built through strong leadership, modern engineering practices, empowered teams, and an operating model that enables engineers to do their best work.

We're looking for someone who has successfully led large engineering organisations, bringing together Software Engineering, DevOps, and Quality Engineering while driving improvements in engineering capability, automation, cloud adoption, and AI-enabled software delivery. You'll be comfortable leading through influence, working closely with Product, Platform, and Technology leadership, and creating an environment where engineering teams can deliver high-quality software at pace.

If you enjoy building engineering organisations as much as building technology, this is an opportunity to have a lasting impact on a business undertaking one of the most significant engineering transformations in its technology journey.
