Head of Engineering - Leading Online Retailer (More details will be shared over a call)
They are looking for a strategic Head of Engineering to take charge of a major business vertical at a pivotal scaling point (100+ engineers) (currently 50-60 including 4 EM).
You’ll partner with Product to shape what we build and lead a team of managers to deliver at speed.
This role is about driving high-velocity delivery, fostering collaboration, and designing an organisation that scales!
They have an amazing engineering lead culture and this role will play an integral part in a very exciting/ important time for the business

It will report into the VP Engineering
You will:
- Own Delivery Strategy: Ensure reliable delivery of your vertical’s roadmap.
- Optimize Flow: Identify and eliminate bottlenecks—whether in requirements, CI/CD, or dependencies.
- Partner with Product: Negotiate scope to maximize value and minimize technical waste.
- Champion Collaboration: Work with Principal Engineers to maintain architectural unity.
- InnerSource Advocate: Empower teams to contribute to shared tech stack.
- Lead Leaders: Manage 3–4 Engineering Managers, focusing on growth and performance.
- Shape Culture: Balance business value with technical excellence—fast, pragmatic, and scalable.

What You’ll Bring
- 6+ years in engineering leadership, including 2+ years managing managers.
- Experience scaling from ~50 to 150+ engineers.
- Strong technical depth—able to debate trade-offs and spot “resume-driven development.” (Their stack is React, TypeScript, Node, AWS)
- Background in retail, online payments, e-commerce, ticketing is a plus!
- Ability to navigate speed vs. stability with data-driven decisions.
- Proven track record in organizational design and high-velocity delivery.
Paying up to £140,000 + bonus + benefits
