Purpose
Accountable for end-to-end enterprise ownership of data governance, data risk, and data management across M&G Group, including policy, standards, governance oversight, and delivery of measurable outcomes. The role ensures the Group achieves a consistent, evidenced control environment and that effective cross-business decisions are made to maintain data risk within appetite.
Key responsibilities and stakeholders
- Own M&G’s enterprise data governance framework end-to-end, including Data Policy, Standards, and governance processes, ensuring they are clear, pragmatic, and consistently interpretable across AM, Life, and Corporate Functions.
- Monitor and provide enterprise-level transparency of data governance outcomes, including data risk position, control effectiveness, and evidence across the Group, with clear reporting into ERC, BRC, and ExCo.
- Work with business and corporate functions to support remediation where data risk is outside appetite, ensuring issues are clearly understood, prioritized, and addressed.
- Lead enterprise governance and oversight mechanisms, including governance forums, performance tracking, and escalation, ensuring clear visibility of progress, risks, and issues across all business areas and Corporate Functions (e.g., Finance, Technology, Operations).
- Act as the enterprise integrator across divisions, working with AM, Life, and Corporate Functions to align priorities, support implementation, and ensure Group standards are embedded in a way that supports delivery.
- Ensure cross-business trade-offs are identified, agreed, and executed, facilitating alignment where priorities, capacity, or approaches conflict, and escalating where resolution is required to maintain enterprise outcomes.
- Drive continuous improvement of the data control environment, identifying where behaviors, processes, or tooling need to change, and ensuring interventions are sequenced pragmatically to maximize impact.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
