At M Group Energy, we’re enabling the energy essential to support our lives.

Our business delivers end-to-end energy infrastructure across Transmission, Distribution, EV and Home Decarbonisation. From building substations up to 400kV and maintaining networks, to enabling EV charging and supporting Net Zero, we play a key role in powering sustainable communities. This role will be Head of Environment & Sustainability as part of our SHEQ team. This is open to candidates across the UK but ideal for someone reasonably central to be able to visit all sites.

What will you be doing?

As a Head of Environment you'll provide strategic leadership across the division, driving a proactive environmental culture, excellent compliance and measurable performance improvements.

  • You'll shape and deliver environmental programmes that support business growth, influence behaviours at all levels and strengthen client confidence through visible leadership, collaboration and strong stakeholder engagement.
  • In this role you'll advance the division’s environmental and sustainability ambitions through industry‑leading performance.
  • Leading the Environmental & Sustainability team, ensuring resources meet business needs and support growth.
  • We'll ask you to drive work winning and business development by positioning the business as a sector leader and engaging with the wider industry.
  • You'll build strong relationships with Regulators, clients and stakeholders, promoting cross‑contract collaboration and driving improvements across the business.
  • You will also ensure adequate resources for internal and external audits to verify compliance, assess risks and embed a culture of continuous improvement.

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Sustainability or a related discipline, plus Chartered membership of ISEP (or equivalent), e.g., CEnv / CISEP.
  • Experience of delivering works granted by planning permission or DCO and Section 37 agreements.
  • Significant senior‑level experience in Environmental or Sustainability leadership.
  • Strong understanding of UK environmental legislation and environmental management systems.
  • Proven ability to lead cultural change and influence sustainable behaviours across organisations.
  • Experience delivering complex projects, managing scope, budgets and timelines.
  • Ability to monitor, interpret and report business KPIs, using relevant environmental and digital tools effectively.
  • Strong commitment to best practice and continuous improvement.
  • Experience leading teams, managing performance and mentoring colleagues.
  • Experience achieving or maintaining externally audited standards (e.g., ISO 14001, Achilles).
  • Visible and engaging leadership style, demonstrating strong influence and the ability to communicate effectively at all organisational levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across Divisions and Group‑wide functions.
  • Strong capability to apply sustainable decision‑making and embed responsible environmental practices across operations.
  • Customer focused and solution-oriented approach, with a commitment to innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated track record of driving continuous improvement and innovation within environmental and sustainability functions.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Willingness to travel to various locations with regular overnight stays.
