Head of Environment, Safety & Health (EHS) – Airbus Belfast
SECURITY CLEARANCE Formally subject to BPSS (Barred List Screening Service) and Export Control checks (including a criminal record check)
TRAVEL REQUIRED Internal UK and travel Location: Belfast Job Type: Permanent Full Time Onsite Grade: L2 Hours: 36-hour week

About the Role
Airbus seeks a strategic leader to drive a positive, sustainable, and compliant EHS culture across Airbus Belfast. You will shape Aerospace EHS policy, champion safety, and ensure compliance as a visible role model for health, safety, and environmental excellence.
Your Key Contributions

Strategic EHS leadership
- Define and champion global and regional EHS vision
- Lead site-wide safety culture through team engagement and stakeholder consultation

Compliance & Process Excellence
- Implement and maintain ISO 14001 (environmental) & ISO 45001 (health & safety) management systems
- Align with legal/regulatory requirements and mitigate risks

Risk Management & Improvement
- Conduct root-cause investigations, leveraging leading & lagging KPIs
- Drive improvement programmes with data-driven insights
- Oversee occupational health, emergency response, and training development

- External & Internal Stakeholder Influence
- Interface with regulations (HSE NI, NI Environment Agency)
- Act as Airbus’s representative in key forums
- Foster collaboration with business leaders and trade unions
The Profile We’re Looking For
Essential
✅ Deep leadership experience in driving continuous safety improvement across environmental, health, and safety (EHS) management tools ✅ Strategic influence – ability to champion cultural change at senior levels, address risks, and foster accountability ✅ Data-driven decision-maker – capacity to interpret complex metrics and prioritise actions based on insights
Qualifications & Experience
📜 Qualified Diplomat/Professional EHS Specialist
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) at degree level
- Current, robust understanding of UK and NI EHS legislation
🏭 Industry-relevant expertise
- 5+ years’ management experience in Health & Safety within Industrial/Manufacturing (preferably Aerospace)
- Hands-on experience in maintaining ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 systems
💻 Technical proficiency
- Experience with EHS management software and performance reporting tools
🗣 Effective communication
- Ability to engage in regulatory forums, present at senior levels and train diverse stakeholder groups
