What is the role?

At Southampton Football Club, safety, security and fan experience go hand in hand. We're looking for an experienced and inspirational Head of Event Safety and Security to lead our approach to delivering safe, secure and welcoming environments across all Club sites, from matchdays at St Mary's Stadium to events, training ground operations and everything in between.

This is a high-profile leadership role where you'll have the opportunity to influence strategy, build exceptional stakeholder relationships and help create unforgettable experiences for supporters, visitors, colleagues, clients and partners.

What will you be doing?

As our Head of Event Safety and Security, you'll:

  • Lead the Club's safety, security and event management strategy across all operational sites.
  • Act as Safety Officer for matchdays and events, ensuring the highest standards of compliance and operational delivery.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including emergency services, local authorities, governing bodies and the Safety Advisory Group.
  • Drive a proactive culture of risk management, emergency preparedness and continuous improvement.
  • Lead the development and testing of emergency, contingency and incident response plans.
  • Ensure safeguarding principles are embedded throughout safety and security operations.
  • Develop high-performing teams through coaching, development and clear leadership.
  • Manage budgets, contractors and service providers to deliver safe, compliant and cost-effective operations.

Is this you?

We're seeking a confident and credible leader who can balance strategic thinking with operational delivery.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Level 4 Diploma in Spectator Safety.
  • Significant experience of working at a senior leadership level in relation to public order and crowd management or building strategies to deliver safe and secure events.
  • Experience leading safe event delivery within a stadium, arena, sporting or large-scale events environment.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at senior level.
  • Experience of leading complex security or safety operations across multiple sites.
  • A collaborative approach to contractor and supplier management.
  • Excellent commercial awareness, governance and budget management skills.
  • A passion for creating outstanding experiences while maintaining the highest safety standards.
