Head of Facilities Management

Head of Facilities Management Operations and Technical Services

Estates and Capital Projects Department

Full-time

Permanent

£68,281 per annum

Application deadline: 17 July 2026

About the role

Join the British Museum in this unique role supporting the delivery of planned and operational hard and soft facilities management services, alongside the successful handover of projects from the Museum’s Masterplan and capital programmes, while helping the Museum welcome approximately 6 million visitors annually. This is a crucial role involving close collaboration with senior stakeholders, supply-chain partners and support teams across the Museum.

As Head of Facilities Management Operations and Technical Services, you will lead the client-side FM Operations and Technical Services team, providing strategic support to the Head of Facilities Management and Workplace Services. You will drive operational excellence through the delivery of outsourced hard and soft FM services, ensuring buildings remain compliant, resilient, safe and fit for purpose. You will also act as the key liaison between capital projects and facilities management operations, ensuring effective project handover, aftercare, warranty management and integration into operational maintenance arrangements.

About you

  • Significant experience leading hard and soft facilities management services within a complex operational environment.
  • Strong knowledge of FM contracts, technical services, statutory compliance and building operations.
  • Proven leadership, stakeholder management and team development skills.
  • Experience managing outsourced service providers, performance standards and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Able to work effectively within a fast-paced environment and provide support across multiple Museum locations when required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
