MacGregor Black are partnering with a growing SME consumer goods business on the search for a Head of Finance. This is a permanent role based in Newcastle.
As Head of Finance, you will be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, partnering closely with the Managing Director to shape business strategy while leading all aspects of finance across the UK and European business. This is a broad leadership role, combining technical financial control with commercial decision making, giving you genuine influence over the future direction of the organisation.
Leading a lean finance team, you will also have responsibility for the HR and IT functions, ensuring the business has the financial infrastructure, systems and controls required to support continued international expansion and an ambitious omnichannel growth strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the finance function, providing strategic and operational financial leadership across the UK and European business.
- Partner with the Managing Director and Senior Leadership Team to shape business strategy and support key commercial decisions.
- Own the month end and year end processes, ensuring accurate, timely and insightful financial reporting.
- Lead the annual statutory audit and manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisers and other professional partners.
- Develop and maintain a robust financial control environment, continually improving governance, controls and reporting processes.
- Champion finance process improvements and systems development, driving efficiencies and supporting future business growth.
- Manage cash flow, working capital and forecasting, providing visibility of business performance and identifying opportunities to improve profitability.
- Produce Board packs and management information, delivering meaningful financial analysis and clear commercial insight.
- Develop annual budgets, forecasts and long term financial plans aligned to the company's strategic objectives.
- Partner with Sales, Supply Chain, Product and Marketing teams, providing financial insight to support business performance and decision making.
- Evaluate acquisitions, investment opportunities and other strategic initiatives through robust financial analysis.
- Ensure compliance across UK and international tax obligations, statutory reporting and payroll processes.
- Lead, coach and develop the finance team, creating a high performing culture while also overseeing the HR and IT functions.
- Drive continuous improvement across ERP systems and reporting capabilities to support future growth.
- Build strong relationships with key internal stakeholders, external partners and investors.

What We're Looking For:

- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or ICAS).
- Previous experience leading a finance function within an SME environment.
- Strong technical accounting expertise, including statutory reporting, financial controls and year end audit management.
- Commercially astute, with the ability to influence strategy and support key business decisions.
- Proven experience leading, coaching and developing high performing finance teams.
- Comfortable operating as a key member of a Senior Leadership Team.
- Experience working within an international business, ideally across European markets and multi-currency environments.
- Experience with ERP systems, ideally Microsoft Dynamics Business Central, and a track record of improving finance systems and processes.
- Strong understanding of cash flow management, budgeting, forecasting and long term financial planning.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to present financial information to senior leadership and the Board.
- A proactive, hands on approach, with strong problem solving skills, an entrepreneurial mindset and a passion for continuous improvement.
