Head of Finance – Wessex Internet

Wessex Internet, an award-winning and fast-growing broadband provider transforming connectivity for rural communities in the Southwest, is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Head of Finance to join its senior leadership team.

This pivotal role sits at the heart of the business, acting as the CFO’s number two and leading day-to-day financial operations. You will combine technical excellence with commercial insight, ensuring financial integrity while shaping strategic decisions to drive sustainable growth.

Collaborating across the business, you’ll provide meaningful financial analysis, challenge assumptions, and embed financial accountability to help deliver on ambitious plans.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all financial operations, ensuring accurate and timely management reporting, month-end close, and robust financial controls.
  • Own the annual budget, forecasting, and long-term financial planning, providing insightful analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • Partner with operational and commercial teams to drive financial accountability, improve performance, and support key business decisions.
  • Oversee cash flow forecasting, funding arrangements, investor reporting, and financial governance across the organisation.
  • Manage statutory reporting, external audits, tax compliance, and ensure all regulatory obligations are met.
  • Lead and develop the finance team, building capability and embedding a commercially focused, business-partnering approach.
  • Drive continuous improvement of financial systems, reporting, processes, and data integrity to support the company’s growth and scalability.

Requirements

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with significant experience in a senior finance leadership role.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, including UK GAAP, statutory reporting, and group consolidation.
  • Experience within a capital-intensive or infrastructure-led business, such as telecoms, utilities, or construction.
  • Proven ability to lead financial planning, forecasting, cash flow management, and business performance reporting.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience partnering with operational and commercial teams to drive decision-making and value creation.
  • Demonstratable experience leading and developing high-performing finance teams.
  • Advanced analytical and financial modelling skills, with the ability to translate complex data into clear business insights.
  • A hands-on, resilient and commercially minded leader who thrives in fast-paced, high-growth environments.
