Head of Finance – Market-Leading Privately Owned Importer/Wholesaler/Distributor

Location: South Manchester Employer: Ascent Recruitment (working with a client)

About the Role

Reporting to the Finance Director and collaborating closely with the Senior Leadership Team, this position will allow you to shape financial strategy, support growth initiatives, and drive commercial performance across a global business.

The client seeks a candidate who is:

  • Technically strong with robust financial expertise.
  • Able to add real commercial value to the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop international finance teams, ensuring accurate and insightful financial reporting.
  • Partner with commercial teams to support growth strategies, investment decisions, and strategic projects.
  • Evaluate acquisitions, business opportunities, and funding options to drive expansion.
  • Build and maintain relationships with financial partners and lenders.
  • Drive operational efficiency and continuous improvement across finance, reporting, and business processes.
  • Support ERP implementations, reporting enhancements, and wider finance transformation projects.
  • Provide commercial insight and influence key business decisions at a senior leadership level.

Requirements

  • Qualified accountant: ACA, ACCA, or CIMA status.
  • Experienced finance leader with a strong track record in operational, technical and commercial finance.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and developing teams.
  • Comfortable operating in complex, multi-entity or international environments.
  • Commercially minded, analytical, and capable of influencing stakeholders across all levels.
  • Ideal: Experience in corporate finance, acquisitions, funding, or strategic growth initiatives.
