Head of Finance
Industry: Family Office
Employment Type: Permanent
Location: London
Salary: c. £90,000
REF: LJ53907
Our client is a well-established Family Office, based in Central London, supporting a complex portfolio of personal, philanthropic, environmental and investment interests. As the organisation continues to evolve and strengthen its internal capabilities, it is seeking to appoint an experienced, hands-on Head of Finance who can remain calm under pressure and maintain a positive, forward-looking attitude. This appointment represents a key hire within the family enterprise.
Description
We are seeking a highly accomplished finance professional to join the organisation, reporting directly to a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, acting as a trusted business partner to the wider Team, and working closely with external experts on specific matters. The successful candidate will be an experienced Head of Finance, with the ability to lead, oversee and develop a small finance function operating across a diverse portfolio of business streams.
This role sits at the centre of the client’s financial operations and strategic planning, working closely with the Senior Management Team while retaining a hands-on approach to day-to-day finance activities. Responsibilities will span financial control and operations, internal reporting, investment support, detailed analysis, and strategic decision-making, in close collaboration with the finance team and wider business functions. Other areas of this position will revolve around ad-hoc project-based work. On occasion, immediate decisions and new projects will need to be made and worked on; candidates must be comfortable with this degree of ambiguity. The environment requires discretion, absolute professionalism, sound judgment, a low ego, and the ability to operate effectively behind the scenes.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, alongside a strong business partnering approach, as the role will work beyond the traditional finance remit and work alongside all levels of the organisation.
Experience gained in private, public, or not-for-profit environments would all be considered. The organisation would also welcome a candidate with the appetite to contribute beyond core finance responsibilities, including supporting cultural development, training initiatives, and senior leadership priorities. Strong IT and financial analysis skills are essential, with advanced Excel capability a key requirement.
